@@gabbyreads have you ever tried reading true story books because I would love for you to do a series on true story books like memoirs or nonfiction because there’s a lot out there that you could go for and read and be really interested into instead of reading mostly fiction or fantasy or horror or mystery.

I'll have to read some of these. When it comes to Fantastic Land, I could believe that happening due to some of things that occurred in places like New Orleans when people decided to stay behind and survive after hurricane Katrina hit. I haven't read this book yet but I have yet to hear anyone bring this book up yet and I just randomly stumbled upon it in a local bookstore and from the blurb it sounds like if you liked The Blair Witch Project you might like this. Its called The Dark Between the Trees by Fiona Barnett. Normally I don't buy paperbacks but I made an exception for this book because it looks gorgeous.

I recommend Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix! It’s very unique - it’s a horror book that takes place in a retail store. Some crazy sh**goes down in there, and it’s very scary! The book looks like an IKEA catalog, with store maps and everything. It’s been around for quite some time (I want to say 7 years or so). I could be off on that. But anyway, if you haven’t already read this, I think you should check it out!

I just read a really good YA Horror/Suspense/Thriller called Bad Graces by Kyrie McCauley. Queer rep for those whom care about that sort of thing. Follows group of young ladies (think they're all older teens) as they shipwreck and land up on a strange island that does weird things to their bodies while they try to survive... reminds me quite a bit of Wilder Girls, so if you liked that book I'd recommend Bad Graces. Beautiful cover too!!

I was loving Monstrilio until the very end. I feel like the author had a very different ending planned but their editor (or who ever makes these choices) made them change it. That ending was incorrect and there's no other way to describe it 😅

I need to dive into horror books after like "The Daughters' War" by Christopher Buehlman - its fantasy horror and I LOVED it. I think its because I loved the main character so much and how she handled all the horror she say and took part in. Highly recommend to anyone that loves fantasy. A girl is in a war and has a pretty much genetically/magically engineered Ravens that really serve as animal companions to the women in the group as they face goblins. There is also family drama and its GAY. lol the audiobook is amazinggg

I tried so hard with Forgotten Island because of how much people seemed to love it but the way the author was writing the female characters was so damn annoying I couldn’t even focus on or enjoy the monster part of it, every time a female character showed up on the page as a dumb whiney annoying & overly sexualized- where to the extreme you are made aware it’s written by a male author- I found myself sighing and getting more and more annoyed to the point I was distracted & finally DNF half way through. In particular the characters were unlikable. I have read a ton of horror. It’s gotten better in regard to female rep but there is definitely many genres where woman are written really badly! Had the author made the female characters more relatable I would have been able to pay attention to the story & maybe enjoyed it and been able to focus on the monster theme of the book. After reading this one I was afraid to pick up any other book by the same author. I keep wondering how woman can look past that big theme in the book and it’s so liked. And I read a lot of male written fantasy, so I am used to badly written woman, but this book, sigh. Wish I could have enjoyed the monster part of it! Can anyone let me know if his other books have the same representation of women?
