I think it's abundantly clear that this site isn't simply a natural phenomenon. So what era is it from? Roman? More recent? Why is there an altar that appears to be very worn down, and rock walls made from the stone blocks? If it's just a quarry why would they create the walls there? And what about the wells? Clearly the metal bars covering the wells are much more recent, but they were probably added later to keep people from falling into them. You can see much more of the very mysterious ancient history of Malta in the other video I recorded on the same day: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGq8gmN4odyXbsk

Those walls look more like leftover unquarried rocks.

I would guess that these wells are rather carved out water reservoirs to collect all that precious rain water. The whole place is a quarry, that's for sure.

The cart ruts. What about this idea: They were used by slaves, back and forth, back and forth, constantly , back and forth for hundreds of years. that's how they also became so deep. and we get the saying " caught in a rut" . it may have originated from something like that. or because they were so deep, perhaps they got caught in a rut ??? Just a thought that came to me. Thank you for your very interesting and informative videos.

@@mf5531 Yes, that seems like the most likely explanation.

@@vasilisiatropoulos3474 Hmm, interesting, that seems possible, they're underground water tanks instead of wells. One way to find out, go inside and find the bottom.

Given that the history of Malta goes back so many millennia, it’s undoubtedly a site that shows human activity in many different eras. I would suspect it was an ancient quarry, but also the site of many settlements, perhaps a town. The more recent phenomena (the ladder going down and the things you called “wells”) might well go back to WW2. If you watch the movie Malta Story or otherwise researched what happened on the island in that war, you’ll understand why I think those “wells” might have been air vents linking to an underground chamber (probably linked to past quarrying) where civilians hid from the near-constant air raids that the Maltese had to endure.

Congratulations Gabrielle Morris. Life can be pretty boring when you focus on just fine print. I must be frank. I'm been on the run lately & have missed all your reports from Spain, Amsterdam(Holland), Malta & just recently Greece. Suprisingly I feel a little deflated. BUt for some time I was fortunate to feel happy after watching your adventures criss crossing Australia, Indonesia,Thialand & Malaysia. Your visit to tropical paradise Bali opened my eyes. Thank You

Wondering if it’s an old bathing lake or reservoir given the grilled over holes that look like wells to draw water up? Perhaps the altar like structure might suggest it could be a religious connection- baptism or something? Who knows?! You certainly find some interesting places! 👍🏻

Much of the drystone "fences" that you've shown are typical around Greece. You can research the subject of drystone in Greece. I'll take a guess that the ruins you are seeing in this video are from the Mycenaean period. Im hardly an expert but my family is from Filiatra so we know everything. lol

As a long-time watcher, I have decided to stop watching your videos until you leave Greece. I get it, you love Greece but it seems dull with your videos showing lots of rocks and few people. Seeing tons of rocks for the last three weeks in countless videos where you move from one rocky scene to another is getting just plain dull.
