When they talk about unnecessary skills, they mean that the important thing is to finish the action. If you've ever seen a video of Ronaldinho or Messi you can have a clearer idea. Messi is probably the greatest of all time but if you see the highlights of him you won't see any acrobatics or various tricks, you only see him overcome a barrier of opponents. When you see Ronaldinho or Neimar you see the show... You see them outdoing their opponents in the most absurd and fun ways. This fills stadiums for sure, but it doesn't win games. All champions know how to do tricks, but they almost never use them in competition simply because they use simpler and more effective skills. Speaking of basketball, who do you think would win a game between the Lakers and the Harlem Globetrotters?
