Fauré is so underrated. IMO, he's not just the best French late Romantic/post Romantic composer, he's one of the very best composers of that entire period! Are you familiar with his Seventh Nocturne? That piece is an especially haunting masterwork. This is a very nice selection, Kyle -- with a very sensitive performance.

I don't think he's underrated so much as simply ignored. Knowledgeable musicians appreciate his originality.

Lovely pieces that I'd never heard before. Thanks for uploading, Kyle! It's just a short step from Faure to Impressionism and Debussy.

I'm so confused by the missing D# at 11:24... It's not the first recording where I've heard this omitted, but I can't work out why it's not played!!

I didn't hear any missing D#, and there was no D# in the score from the timestamp you specified.

@@SaxVentures Ah, I see. I never caught that before. It easily could have been a misread, or that Crossley decided to change the note to D♮, but most likely the former, since it looks easy to miss. This is why I hate the traditional format of sheet music and wish accidentals were placed in front of each individual note-save for individual repeated notes/chords-instead of carried through each measure; it makes sight-reading a lot smoother in my experience.

Paul Crossley Fauré Intégrale Piano works is an excellent one to have. There's also Le Sage album with the Nocturnes, but no other Intégrale can compare to the Crossley one. At least for me, of course. 🎵🎶🆗👍💙😇

The beginning of the Fugue in A minor seems like a little reference to Chopin's Op. 25 No. 11.

Fauré's style reminds me of the portuguese composer António Fragoso.
