BCS introduced me to some beautiful music.
@lordhighmarshal8 жыл бұрын
Indeed. Though I gotta say this is a completely different interpretation of the same piece - Chuck's version was a lot more edgy, with the individual notes played virtually like staccati, almost like a march. This is a lot more fluent and softer - though I liked both versions.

The internet has made discovery instantaneous, and even better, made us aware of the fact that the things we discover alone are actually being discovered simultaneously by others who, like us, have been driven by a mutual human curiosity and appreciation of beauty... as well as excellent taste in television!

Chuck is a complex guy. So deep in some aspects, and so shallow in others. This is a very sweet piece and shows a gentle and vulnerable side of him that he attempts it and cannot conquer it. Dam, this show is so well written. Take nothing for granted with BCS!
@iesudsy8 жыл бұрын
+ericha sf I think you missed the point. Chuck's classical and measured upbringing juxtaposes his brother's quick-and-easy style, something that Chuck hates. This piece would take years to master (and is beautifully performed by this pianist). Chuck's inability to conquer it (something that would have been easy in the past) shows the conflict he has with his brother and the fact that Jimmy is getting to him. Kudos to the writers for this subtle scene.
@erichasf20278 жыл бұрын
+Ian Sutherland hmm.... I've heard that interpretation from a couple of people (that Chuck is fumbling that piece bc Jimmy's getting to him). Wasn't he already messing it up before Howard got there with the news about Jimmy? Just for the sake of discussion, I'd say that scene was more about Chuck's internal conflict (remember this guy is full of phobia's) than his preoccupation with his brother in that moment. As for Sicilienne, it might take years to reach that level of ability to read music, and most amateurs wouldn't have it in their bench. It seems Chuck can read it, just has a mental block getting through that transition. Agree though, no matter how you analyze it, brilliant, thought provoking writing!!
@OptimusSatanas8 жыл бұрын
+ericha sf Just because he found out about jimmy getting the job, it doesn't mean that he wasn't already being bothered by his falling out with jimmy. He couldn't even start playing after he found out jimmy got that job.

Chuck is all about pragmaticism. Of course his education and mastering of litterature is far above a regular human being, but this very scene shows him facing the reality of his condition: he is incapable of thinking outside the box even though he desperately wants to. That's one of the reasons he hates Jimmy so much, a little brother who is excellent at using the frame to bypass it. Furthermore, Jimmy is a monster of empathy, ready to put his very existence in danger to protect what is precious to him, although Chuck is all about law and won't let anybody deviate him from his trajectory. Taking a closer look at the scene shows the pendulum used by Chuck to keep pace slightly lagged after Howard's visit, a way to emphasize the rising internal struggle he's about to live.
