Gabriel did these car videos to prove to haters that he can actually sing. there are quieter parts because he changes vocal registers throughout the song. singing in falsetto or head voice is typically a softer lower volume sound whereas belting requires a lot more volume. you wouldn't notice this if he had a mic. he's not making mistakes. he's literally recording his vocals on a phone in a car with shit acoustics so you're not getting the full effect of his vocal capabilities

I know most young people don't know the rock band from the 70's called "Foreigner" but this song who Mariah Carey sang was the actual original musician of this song. So Mariah also did the cover of Foreigner. The guy on the right seems to think himself knows a lot about singing or music but it's obvious that he knows only a very little about it so it is fine it's his opinion but he makes himself a bit fool and makes people annoyed. Even the girl on the left looks a bit bothered that he talks too much crap of criticism without knowing much about singing and music. Anyway, it doesn't really matter because it's so clear that Gabriel is super gifted with his incredible singing talent and being able to sing from his heart and soul which not many professional singers can reach to that level.
