For a semi-final, the musical choice was good, I'll explain: he didn't want to be obvious by choosing a Diva song that we are already used to seeing on his social media accounts, the song he chose is new for us who follow his career. His competition is Putri Ariani and he was smart to choose that song with piano accompaniment, also one of Simón's favorite songs, making it angelic and "simply beautiful." Wait for the final so you can see the Diva, be patient

Great reaction, it is important that people understand, the production chooses the songs and he can pick one of the songs given to him, in my opinion Simon is building him up, he´s not giving all at once so we won´t have anything left at the end, it is one of Simon´s favourite songs, that should give us a hint, as he said to Gabriel you could´ve chosen a more obvious song but I like that you took the risk, he sang something totally different from what we have heard on the internet, to me that has the surprise element, the unexpected and again he´s climbing the ladder and let´s not forget that this song seems to be the darling song for many Americans these days.

He didn't choose this song . He wanted to sing " Stand Up " or two other Mariah Carey's . The AGT Prod refused . Given the few days rehearsal he had for that song , lets admit he did an Amazing job . At the end of the day, A lot of the songs you think he could've chosen are way too overplayed. I think he made a smart decision with this song. Not EVERY performance (even in competition) has to be showy and vocally demanding. If anything, it was a balanced performance, exactly what was needed for that round. So with that knowledge, Simon is right.
