The basic attacks like jab cross are great but they aren't always the easiest to land because both attacks are directed to the same area. Today I share 4 of my favourite ways to make it easier to land a punch. Practice these in shadow boxing and then try them out during sparring. I think you'll find they are very successful.

Regarding two of your combos… 1) the body cross to overhand right, I like to set this one up with a power jab to the body, just feels better and DEFINITELY lands once you’ve set it up, but I like the info of watching your opponents reaction to land the overhand more effectively 2) the rear hook to jab, I actually saw an old Chuck Liddell fight where he handed this combo VERY effectively and often but he used it reversed with a lead hook to cross. I liked it and tried it in sparring, the concept is the same tbh but the looping hook opens up the middle SO well, so using any hook to straight combo seems to be effective as hell.

Another awesome video gabe. I’m currently working on a list of the best TWO punch combos. Obviously we can set these up with a jab, slip and end them with a leg kick. As a beginner, these simple two punch combos will elevate my offense and provide me some good counter options

One of the best training I had is punching candles and putting the flame out with fist wind. The more speed you have the more you are allowed to do and the closer you can creep in during your invasions. Eventually you get to a distance where you KNOW your punch can rock them thanks to your speed training and there is almost nothing they can do, they have let you get too close with the current positions and setup. The punch is now 99% guaranteed.

Jab to left hook definitely takes practice to get down. My favorite setups were always counterpunches and my defense was my offense and vice versa so if I felt desperate I'd go on the attack and to really hurt them I'd draw them in and hit them as they come at me. While moving forward my favorite is jab high cross low then left hook high. Drawing them in I most often slip and stick them to the body with either jab or straight right, but more damaging is to draw them in with a throwaway jab and vs their jab slip right and immedietely throw another jab to hit them while we both move in then if they are stunned follow with a right hand fully loaded from the slip; and versus their right hand to counter it with a left hook to the head (don't have your shoulder wide or low - important). Many opponents can be drawn into bad position just by taking measured steps back and then nail them, particularly with a right hand.

My sparring partners continously use the long guard and I can't pass it easily. Getting into that range is excluded since I have no idea how to close distance without getting punched.

I actually love the jab to the long hook to the head combo. Maybe to the point where I became a bit too predictable with it, 'cause I really do use it quite a lot XD It may feel awkward at first, but once you've drilled and used it enough in sparring, you'll be able to get that satisfying snap even on the weaker, no pull back variation

Excellent video just what I wanted. Can you do more videos like this focusing on boxing tips(for muay thai/kickboxing)? Also can you do a video on your tight high guard defense, combined with what counter punches you like throwing after blocking/deflecting the opponents shots(which is gonna change depending on where they were aiming)? Do a video combining Punches and kicks too. This video, and ones like what I described, help me the most in my training.
