Yes, please, on the defensive tutorial. Many instructors, particularly when they have large classes of varying skill, do not have time to spend demonstrating and implementing a comprehensive set of defensive techniques. With that in mind, it leaves open too many holes when sparring. A tutorial such as yours would be immensely helpful.

Hello from Ethiopia Gabriel. I NEED that full length, full detail defense video. I spar at a relatively slow pace and my partners are always keeping me busy with non-stop assaults until I eventually crack because of faulty defense. I need to take my defense to the next level if I'm going to thrive with my slow countering style. That being said, this video in and of itself has given me a deeper understanding about what I should do. I'm going to implement this into my training regiment starting tomorrow. Thanks 🙏. Keep it coming...

The dutch guard invites your opponent to overcommit because you are unable to attack quickly. It seems that head movement is better because then you can get in the opponent space with their guard down. It is important to remember offensive and defensive advantages to each style. As a wise person once said, the best offense is the best defense.

i agree, also it doesn't have to be in that order. block, head movement, footwork. sometimes your game plane could be to use footwork more as a defense or blocking a lot hoping he'll gas out. more head movement to stay in the pocket to land more counters, because the guy your fighting is slow.
@ogrbell8297 Жыл бұрын
Excellent video! Ive been combining peek a boo and the dutch style kickboxing for years; it’s the foundation of my striking. The dutch block pairs well with counter punching as you move inside and setting up the D’Amato shift. It’s also incredibly easy to frame and set up sweeps/takedowns from.

In fencing it's similar. You can't defend for ever, even if you can manage 5, 6, 7 parries, something will get through eventually; you absolutely have to hit back to establish your space. Even a beginner will eventually hit you if you don't counter.

Yes please, I would love a comprehensive defense tutorial, I find I am what you describe as stepping back too much and taking too much damage during sparring, which obviously is not good. I realize that defense is such an incredibly important, overlooked topic during muay thai/kickboxing gyms. They teach alot of Combos but not alot of defense footwork/countering/blocking techniques to actually protect yourself and break your opponents chain of attacks.

Thanks, everything you say totally makes sense and are things I’ve learned through sparring. Pressure and countering is huge. I think it’s super important for people to understand that defense isn’t static. It should be fluid and you should mix it up otherwise you become predictable and easy to predict. Makes you more susceptible to feints. Something I learned from my coaches.
