I keep thinking that i have no issue with the way Nancy's new voice actually sounds, but the issue is in the delivery of the lines. It just sounds weirdly robotic or unnatural? Like it really isn't conversational. I think that's why people are comparing it to AI lol

I’ve always though this. The delivery is super inauthentic and not how anyone would ask questions or converse in general. It’s very robotic and like Siri. Everyone else has such a relaxed way of talking most of the time and when it comes to Nancy NONE of the lines sound normal 😂

The issue with the voice isn't the tone or how un/similar to the old voice, it's actually a fairly decent simile to the old Nancy voice, the problem is that it sounds like it's voiced by an AI. The intonation and cadence can be all over the place at times. Sometimes she'll go a full sentence or two smoothly and sounds like it was voiced by an actor, others she has mini pauses every couple words. Honestly thinking about it more, it's like they did the minimal voice recording they could then spliced everything up, so instead of it being "I'm Nancy Drew, it's nice to meet you Elka." all being one fluid recording, it's more like "I'm Nancy Drew.... it's nice to meet you Elka." of two separate line reads stuck together. Either way it's still fun seeing new Nancy, especially modern Nancy with fully exploreable areas.

I agree, it sounds like there’s splicing and maybe even a voice filter or editing used at times. She also just speaks a bit mechanically at times (over-enunciating her words, reading out contractions like “do not” instead of “don’t,” and saying things in a way that doesn’t sound natural in the conversation.)

the difference between these cops taking Nancys advice and agreeing to check out different leads she's suggesting and ALL the american ones that constantly talk down to Nancy and go out of their way to try to prove Nancys wrong. Its refreshing to have someone who actually listens to someone when they say someones missing...unlike when our friend Maya got kidnapped at the theatre and the cops repeatedly told Nancy she was wrong and didnt even believe she was abducted even though a witness is saying she heard her scream "help". The voice is good at times so I know the actress can do a good job, she totally sounds like what I think Nancy should sound like. But the voice acting has never been a strength of this series and it’s not starting now 😂 the way she’s edited and spliced and the way they made her exaggerate her enunciation in certain spots just makes her sound like a robot at times, it’s depressing but hopefully they’ll keep her and figure out a cadence over the next games!

I disagree with the VA having never been a strength in these games. I actually think the VA in past games was really good! There were awkward lines deliveries here and there, especially in really old ones, but I always thought it was pretty strong, had lots of personality, and sounded realistic. That and the dialogue have always been my favourite parts of past Nancy games. There are so many iconic lines from games and I think that on top of the writing, it was the voice acting that made those lines so memorable.

You must not actually play the games then, because the original 32 games always had very good and authentic voice acting. It was one of the strengths of the original games. Sure some of the accents weren’t perfect, like in SAW, but most of the games did have a very talented voice cast and good dialogue as well. Also, give the new actor a chance? This is the second game in a row that her voice acting was bad. How many chances should she get?

I wish that there were more written Czech in this game and less English. It's really breaking my emersion; why would a native Czech write notes in English? Why would posters and documents meant for Czechs be in English? In other Nancy Drew games, they had Nancy carry around a foreign language dictionary so she could use that to translate. I don't see why they couldn't have done that here.

The voice acting in this game reminds me of an old cassette my mom had for studying English for a trip, the delivery is mostly wooden and the lines don't resemble a normal conversation someone would have. Most of the older games had really good dialog and delivery this one is really meh in comparison.

The VA for all characters are good except Nancy. The VA isn't fit for this role, there's no emotion in the delivery and sounds like they're learning to speak for the first time because of the odd enunciated words. Another reason for my criticism on Nancy's voice, is she's an experienced VA, so it's disappointing- however she can give good line delivery but it's few & far atm. Aside from that the game is great!

In my limited and probably biased opinion: Nancy’s voice sounds somewhat strange at times due to her voice actor’s cadence, specifically for exclamations and questions. Basically, when you start an exclamation or a question, you should know what it is when you start speaking it, so an exclamation has more force behind it from the beginning, and a question has a rising tone throughout the sentence. So for questions, Nancy’s cadence often isn’t rising, but instead going up and down, which sounds unnatural. Because this up and down cadence for asking questions is also used when mocking someone, it can come across as insincere. But obviously, her tone doesn’t sound mocking, but since the cadence is still off, it comes across as robotic. As for why AIs sound so off, it is most likely also because those things don’t need to breathe, as breathing also influences your speech rhythm. Also, punctuation marks became a thing so people knew which cadence to use when reading books and stories out loud to others. This also means that if you don’t really know grammar, you can cheat by placing them according to where you want pauses (for effect or to get a breather) as when you would read it out loud. At least that’s what I did. Please correct me if I’m wrong, it is quite welcome, and hope you have a nice day!
