I pointed this out in Jack's playthrough comments (cuz I'm a nerd and I get excited about these things) Amenti is the name for the door to the Underworld in Ancient Egyptian mythology. It's also where the sun went after it went down. I think the main character is navigating the trials and gates to get to the afterlife (or i guess get picked up by aliens) that are described in The Book of the Dead. That book has funeral rites in it, but it also serves as like a game walk through, giving you tips and tricks to get by the traps, monsters and gates to get to the afterlife. Ancient Egyptians even chiseled those directions into the walls of the tombs so souls wouldn't get lost.

@@gentlechaos5911 My elderly parents had a lovely time after researching a lot. You need to plan properly with a verified personal guide and not hop on random group tours . Most bad experiences are from people who attempted to be independent or didn't plan their agendas properly. There are many armed guards at historical tourist sites, but you still need to be prepared for common tourist scams like photo-taking. Like most highly populated areas, don't wander alone and stay away from alleys. I hope you're able to have a wonderful trip someday.

Gotta say that someone really needs to show some of these indie horror game makers an actual news broadcast because they nearly all contain one and they are almost all atrociously written and sound nothing like how news readers talk. "Some places are cursed and if you go there you will never leave... up next our weather correspondent..."
@billbill60946 күн бұрын
I always think about this. It's funny because even when they use it to give exposition, since if you think about it the News is an exposition show, they still manage to mess it up. But it's atrocious when they use it to convey emotion. You never even hear them use News Anchor voice, you know when they set up a short phrase at the end of a sentence to _punctuate_ emotion. "Today will be remembered as a day of tragedy... and hope"
@meganl34266 күн бұрын
If I had to guess, this game was probably produced by a studio in Asia. There's an English speaker shortage in a lot of parts of Asia right now. A lot of the smaller studios that can't afford to pay the same rates as big studios for talented English speakers rely heavily on AI, or on freelancers who speak English as a second language. I work with a lot of companies in Asia, and I can tell this one put a lot of work into trying to produce a polished product with a shoestring budget. Bad English aside, I'd like to see what this studio could do with some real cash at its disposal. I'm kind of obsessed with the idea of a haunted pyramid. It's really novel in video games that usually fall back on zombies and body horror. I want more.
@FacingVicissitudes5 күн бұрын
@@meganl3426 That's not really an excuse though. There's plenty of newscast examples on KZbin. Speaking English has nothing to do with writing how news is written. There's also examples or even tutorials how journalism is written, depending on the medium. Even Asian countries have standard for how they write their news. It's not like the voice actors are just saying news out of thin air. They have to read it. So it's a composition issue, not an "english speaker shortage". I'm saying this as an Asian myself.

I have to say tho, go with a tour guide, as a europian, it is very different from what I am used to, mostly how they want to sell you anything quite aggressively, and no amount of NO is enough. We were on a lead tour and a guy hopped into our van after following us to force sell us something...so there is that. But is is beautyful, the ancient sites are really worth to see, amazing and astonishing.

So fun fact if no one has looked it up, Henry Caldwell was an Australian army mechanic during WWII in the Middle East, he was an amateur photographer and he smuggled his pocket camera with him to the front lines in the Middle East. He took many pictures of tribes, ancient tombs, and pyramids! He lived to be 101. The creators of this game must have correlated the theme of the game to him!

However this makes me wonder why they decided to set this game in the 70s. That's SO many decades after most of the archaeological work involving buried Pharaohs - aka discovering Tutankhamun - happened. Nobody was excavating pyramids during this time that I know of...

I mean, Gab may not immediately know exactly what you are talking about either. If you posted a 50 minute video, would you remember every single casual question you asked and instantly understand which question someone is answering? it costs zero dollars to attach a time stamp, and as other people have pointed out, comments are public. They can be aimed at a certain person but you are still essentially sitting in a room with a bunch of other people talking about the same thing. Is it not unreasonable to expect some engagement by the people around you?
