"guys is this a metaphor perchance" -moqa replying to someone's comment. i think the metaphor of the blood on his hands is the guilt he feels from hurting so many people in the miltary. no matter how many times he scrubs the blood from his hands, it stains him, like he can't shake the guilt. he feels he always has the blood of others on his hands. the criminal stabbed someone, so the blood is, presumably, theirs. nik had an innocent person's blood on his hands, even though it wasn't his fault. the trauma sticks with him like the blood stains his hands, even if it's not always his fault.
