This town in ALABAMA has some of the lowest real estate prices in the state. People are afraid of High CRIME RATES here. The city has ALOT of potential, good paved roads and housing affordability is NOT a concern here.

I have lived in Gadsden for almost 20 years and it literally is the armpit of Alabama. Drugs, poverty, and small town political corruption is the main issue with this town. I love reading people's who they try and defend this place. For whatever reason people always seem to bring up what this town "used" to be back in the day like it has any damn relevence for the now. The only thing is town has going for itself is the vast amount of mountains, rivers, and lakes. The problem with that though, is the city has no idea nor do they care to utilize the scenery like other cities do. Mark my words, it will be a long time before Gadsden ever sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Factor in high crime, drug epidemic, and a crippled local economy this town hasn't seen the worst yet. I have a lot of roots in this dying town but I can not wait to get my family out of the place and raise my kids where there is endless opportunities and safe. If you have a family I suggest you don't move here if your considering it, and if live here already then get out because nothing is going to change! Pack up and head north to Huntsville!

@jaystacks14503 жыл бұрын
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS Yeah the "hate and segregation" in Gadsden is pretty bad. People in Gadsden seem to intentionally look down on the ones who make something of themselves out of some unjustifiable resentment as if somebody owes them something, when it is really a lack of self accountability. Lack of self accountability is rampant in the Gadsden/Etowah area. I was born in Huntsville and I've lived in a few states in between then to now. I've never felt proud to say I'm from Gadsden, and I doubt that will change. This place is very sad and it unfortunately is a depressing town to live in. Gadsden does not want to change because it will alter the political dynamics and financial control of the ones who run this city. Small town Small minds. It’s hard to figure what the purpose of these “programs” are. Any drive through Gadsden will quickly expose their lies. Where are the many historic parts of town? the numerous cultural events and festivals? community and professional theatres, concert halls, civic and community building, the newly renovated and bustling downtown area, the tons of new creative popular restaurants, water crafts and sports on gorgeous rivers, the church communities, museums, gorgeous mountain hikes, mom and pop businesses, the gorgeous country club and golf courses (that these two “reporters” would never be permitted into. I assure you, rolling through the Westside, Eastside or Northside projects in the late 80s, and 90s....you wouldn't have felt safe. There was no ac units. You rolled down 14th st at any time of the day, you getting bricked . The police didn't roll through there solo. Myrtlewood, back in the day had them breezeway. You did what you had to do, dip through a breezeway and you wasn't about to get caught. Anyway, if interested, look up an article in the Gadsden Times regarding Myrtlewood where a dude took over the housing authority in gadsden and said it was the worse he had ever seen.

One day, we were having really bad storms and I saw about 13 tornadoes (possibility some were just storms) come over those mountains in the background! It was time to pack up and move! There was a manufactory (Bobbie Brooks) there, a Goodyear Tire Manufactory, one restaurant we loved, but it closed down (Billy Bobs). They had the BEST food! We loved going to Noccalula Falls, on top of the nearest mountain. It had a handicap park for kids, and a regular park for kids. I liked living there, and, may have stayed if we had lived in a better place.

Okay, at the beginning you kept saying how desolate it is? Lol You were downtown on Broad Street were most stores close at around 5:30-6 in the evening. During the day you can barely find anywhere to park. Most of the "abandoned" buildings arent abandoned, they're just closed for the day. Gadsden was not founded by anyone from California. It was founded by John Riley, an American Indian/European who was a settler from South Carolina. The settlement he founded was originally named Double Springs. It was then renamed Gadsden after James Gadsden who was also from South Carolina. But anyway, it's funny seeing your comments to people on here talking about how hateful the people are here, yet you're leaving incredibly hateful comments about this city. Did anything bad happen to you while you were in Gadsden? No it didn't. There's places in this country where you couldn't just be driving around like that and be okay. There's good people in Gadsden. And all those comments and talking about how high our crime rate is, it's funny how us actually living here in Gadsden don't see that crime or even hear about it really. There's not much goes on here at all compared to large cities. It's other major cities and states that are always on the news talking about murders and major crime. You have no reason to be bashing this place like you are. And there's a lot of Hispanic people here and surrounding cities. Many are good friends of mine, and they have no problems at all. We pretty much all live together here just fine, no matter what race we are.

I'm two years after the fact seeing this ... I am gonna tell y'all what happened to Gadsden and surrounding area. Gadsden USED TO BE a manufacturing powerhouse city! There were numerous industries located here that employed thousands of the residents of Gadsden and surrounding counties. Republic Steel (Several owner/name changes through the years), Goodyear, the EMCO industries, Siemens Allis, Gerber AAA (Toilet manufacturing) many machine shops such as Alabama tool & die, Dixie Tool & Die just to name a few. PLUS, all of the supporting industries that supplied all of the manufacturing in the area. There is nothing left to earn a decent wage. Hospitals. Everyone cannot be a nurse. The nearest decent wage jobs is Birmingham and Huntsville. The cheap labor from China (Asia), Mexico and other sh*t hole countries offering 0.30 cents an hour labor was too tempting for the industrialist to turn down. These manufacturers moved their industries "Offshore" as they call it. They have no liability for the employees there. No insurance, very little environmental concerns, no workman's comp insurance and very little tax reliability in those countries. Basically, the industrialist left the USA, leaving behind a 15-20% profit margin then they reap 65-70% profits. I know, I was in the middle of it for 30 years.

You failed to go on the mountain to the Falls. You didnt go on Rainbow drive or North Gadsden. They are nice areas of Gadsden. You just went to the unthriving areas. Those areas were a part of my childhood and I'm glad to say I grew up there and dont forget where I came from. Texas has been for over 30 plus years and will never forget my home Gadsden. When the big companies left so did the people. With new public official they may do better in the next couple of years.

From the time you stopped on the 6th Street "hump" until you passed the big U-Haul sign on Kyle Av. You were in a very bad part of town, crime, drugs. Car jackings, shootings, poverty, just downright ghetto, don't let the new metal roofs and central air fool you

Gadsden is a shit hole. Crime through the roof. People leave Gadsden by the droves to small suburbs. Drive through East Gadsden or Alabama City and you’ll see open drug use, homeless people, and things you would never expect in a small town.

Turn right at the courthouse and I live down that way...the girl on the statue helped the confederate army find a shallow spot to cross the river right there....the seniors at high school use to break off her finger to show off...it had to be replaced many times so now cameras are guarding her now...
