As an aussie I know the pain of explaining to the rest of the world you play a special type of football that only your country plays. I used to enjoy watching the aussie afl players play a spot of gaelic football in the off season, it was always professional athletes vs Irish postmen and butchers but they were tough as they come.

I personally know this man, having fallen out of his pub in broad daylight after a night out many times. This is actually Eddie in real life, he’s as mad as a bag of cats! His brother Pat was the headmaster in my secondary school when I was there, an altogether quieter man. He’s even in this video! Growing up as I did in nearby Tipperary Town Eddie is nothing short of a legend, a man known the world over, happy out in his little corner of Ireland.

@@AwakenedAvocado there are some similarities and for a while they experimented with a hybridised game between the two nations that involved a round ball and a mixture of scoring systems from both games. Unsurprisingly, the Irish tended to win more than the Australians. When I was a kid growing up in Chicago in the 60s, I had an older Irish cousin, Jim Kelly, who fancied himself a Jack of all trades. Many were the times I'd be working with my brothers and Jim would be our foreman/coach/announcer. He never stopped talking the whole job. He'd be cursing us and blessing us, reciting snatches of Irish poetry, singing and lamenting good men lost...he sounded just like this guy. We must have scared the bejesus out of Jim's poor customers.

Qxir, I'm American with a lot of Irish decent, and have never heard of Gaelic Football until this video. Thank you so much for educating me more of my Irish heritage in 20 minutes than all of my ancestors did in my 40 years of being alive. Also, the video about the whisky fire and all the people that died was because of alcohol poisoning and not from fire or smoke.... one of my favorite videos. I think I'll watch it again right now.

Ireland is such a unique country. They are them, and they are unique. I appreciate them. My last name is McReynolds so I'm a bloody Mc but raised in Oregon. So I appreciate all those who live in Ireland and live true to form. Irish/Japanese comparisons fascinate me. Both islands but so different. It’s amazing how earthquakes, typhoons, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions can effect a people. Disgrace yourself in Japan and suicide is the remedy to restore your honor, disgrace yourself in Ireland? Just lie low for a couple of weeks and then brave it out and act like it never happened, counting everybody to have either already forgotten all about it or generally not giving a shit even if they do remember.

The drunken commentary by 'effin Eddie was just the chef's kiss on the whole deal. 🤣 He deserved a permanent (and paid!) commentary job for that gig.
