This is without a doubt, my favorite Gaelic Storm song.

A hundred days at sea, A wretch away from misery Rummies and rats and tarry jacks my only family (break) The island of salvation is still a scream a way As the lungs of the night blow out the light my heart kneels down to pray (straight into chorus) Lord why did you take her She meant so much to me Now I? m a wretched soul on a privateer drowning out at sea I? m killing and I? m drinking my blue heart to black But I swear, oh Lord, I? ll never sin again if you bring her back Gypsy was a siren, Dripping with desire Her moonless hair and skin so fair as warm as frozen fire She had the loyalty of a cat, behind those pale green eyes And through her cherry lips the devil slipped, a thousand lies A clan of rogues and vagabonds occupied her head That thieving band took her pale white hand and stole her from my bed And like a ghost ship in the night she drifted out once more To land upon the sand of another lover? s shore Lord why did you take her she meant so much to me Now I? m a wretched soul on a privateer drowning out at sea I? m killing and I? m drinking my blue heart to black But I swear, oh Lord, I? ll never sin again If you bring her back In my sleeping mind she sings a sad and lonely lullabye When I wake there? s just the ache it will haunt me till I die When those winds of vanity no longer blow her west I pray they? ll guide her home (across the foam) and put my heart to rest Press gang filled this Man-o-War To make the black mouthed cannon roar Now all my trade is ball and blade, and blood forever more And the sting of salt and spray, the ocean? s howl and squall A stumbling wreck, I roam the deck, at the devil? s beck and call. at the devil? s beck and call Oh, Lord, why did you take her She meant so much to me Now I? m a wretched soul on a privateer Drowning out at sea I? m killing and I? m drinking my blue heart to black But I swear, oh Lord, I? ll never sin again if you bring her back

Out of curiosity, I'm wondering if anyone else who enjoys this song belts out the "Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!" while Patrick Murphy (the lead singer) sings, "I swear, O Lord, I'll never sin again, if you bring her back!"

Out of curiosity, I'm wondering if you have ever lost you truly love...cause you seem to think that he's casually throwing that phrase around....While it may not be possible to not sin, it is quite surprising what losing someone you love will do to you.....
@Stussmeister10 жыл бұрын
The Seventh My apologies. I wasn't doubting the sincerity of what he was saying, and it seems that his message indicates just how desperate he is to have the one he loves return to him. I have indeed lost my fair share of family and friends, and while time may stem the grief of loss, it cannot banish it away entirely, nor can it completely erase the memories.
@apollohateshisdayjob960610 жыл бұрын
The Seventh It seems worth to mention that he was not saying "ha ha ha ha" to the song, he was referring to the more sailor chant of "Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!" From the song itself.

Not the slave trade, a privateer. Think 'pirates' sanctioned by a government to prey on ships from a rival country.

No need to apologize, was just pointing out an error. Mostly because there are some people out there who would really fly off the handle at such a mistake. Irish people tend to not like the British very much (and for good reason)

Yes, I know this. I just do not desire to go to Ireland. Scotland is where I plan to go. Ireland is a beautiful place and I'm very much rethinking my decision to only go to Scotland. I'm sorry if I offended you.
@elizabethzander427311 жыл бұрын
Okay, I know this (as I have stated several times) and I am sorry for offending anyone. But, just so you know, I was able to tell an Irish friend of mine about my hopes to go to Scotland without offending him. This was because, unlike most females my age, I did not wish to go to England for any reason (most young ladies from the states want to go to England for that boy band One Direction). Anyway, I am very sorry for any confusion.

A press-gang filled this man o'war, To make the black-mouthed cannon roar,/This pirate ship was crewed by conscripted corsairs, press-ganged into service. Their duty was to ravage, loot and destroy, manning the black-mouthed cannon. Now all my trade is ball and blade, blood forever more. Basically, the corsair feels that all he is good for is killing and ravaging. Having lost his lady, he lives on the Seas, taking out his grief and rage out on any ship unfortunate enough to cross his path. Hope this helps.
