One thing though - I am a quantum physicist and I can certainly tell you that the so-called "quantum computers" that exist today are nowhere near capable of cracking the encryption that we use, and also that encryption methods that are immune to quantum computers already exist and can be deployed by simple software updates (aka post-quantum cryptography). Furthermore, it is extremely unlikely that quantum computers will achieve error rates low enough to be practically useful for anything. Right now they can't even prove that 35 = 7 × 5.
