In this video I'm going to show you how to make a quick, simple pair of wire wrapped leather earrings with a couple pieces of leather, beads and basic wire wrapping techniques.
This jewelry making tutorial starts out showing how to wrap side drilled briolettes. If you already know how to do this, or if you want to add pre-made charms or dangles to the earrings, skip to
5:15 to see how to assemble the rest of the earring.
The technique I teach for finishing off the leather portion of the earring is the same technique I use for finishing off leather necklaces. It also works great for cotton and other cords as well. So
if you're looking for a way to wrap the ends of a cord necklace, you've found it. :)
Supplies needed for this project:
8" Round leather lace (you could also use waxed cotton or thin suede lace, but each material will hang differently, so experiment and see what you like best)
16" 22 gauge round, dead soft wire
24" 24 gauge round, dead soft wire
2 briolettes (teardrop beads) or other charm that you can hang from the earrings
2 ear wires (I use hand made ear wires, but you can use store bought ear wires as well)
Tools needed for this project:
Round Nose Pliers
Flush Wire Cutters
Small Bail Making Pliers (If you don't have the small bail making pliers, you can use any round cylindrical object that is approximately 2.5mm in diameter)
Needle Nose Pliers
