The cherry on top of a fantastic tiling window manager. This wm is very simple to use out of the box, i'm impressed.

I wish it were easier for me to learn some basic scripting. You're getting pretty good at this, Mike. Maybe if I understand some of the relationship w/ what programmers are writing, say, in whatever language most of your bash or fish shells,..the syntax & how to see more examples, I can try doing a little of the kind of stuff you do. I know it's not like writing in Python or C, but it's not that different, I guess..

Well my friend you have shed some light on the quirks thing... I fooled with it several times and my old brain just did not get why it would not work.. The text below was a mystery too... I gave up on that ages ago and even deleted it from my config... Guess I need to add it back in as the commands were backwards the whole damn time, I think... Lol Been running between SpectrWm and LeftWm for the last few weeks and not sure which is better but SpectrWm is my first love... :-D Been working outside the last few days and have not done much on computers but as it was 32 degrees in Indiana today thought I would play with Awesome WM today but atlass it was not meant to be... The test bed Hdd went Click Click Click on Boot Up... :-( Guess I need to start using Vbox again... :-( NOT a Good April 1st Joke at all... Later! Thanks for the video! LLAP

@Bruce Scott. Sounds like you are having some of my luck... Speaking of hdds... I finally pulled the trigger and bought the last 3 items for my htpc I want to build (drive, cpu, and motherboard)... It will be a while before that video sees the light of day though. But you might get a kick out of it.... It's a sleeper... #spoilers lol

@@linuxdabbler I really can't say much about the old drive. I was a 7 year old Western Digital AtA with a Sata adaptor... Lol eI was getting it ready for Dos in a few days after messing with Awesome WM on MX. But now I will just buy a new 250gb AtA Ide off of GoHdd... HaHaHaha LLAP

Well, I knew about quirks, and I had gone through the somewhat painful process of deciphering 'xprop,' but I am *definitely* going to add a Fish shortcut or alias for 'quirk' as 'xprop | grep WM_CLASS' to save a lot of time setting quirks in the future. Thanks for the idea :)

P.S. Thank you for being one of the only good sources on the Web for tips and tricks with spectrwm.

@cstephan. That is a great idea for a fish abbreviation or alias... I'll have to add that one myself.

i think the coma : is the title or instance like URxvt:htop or ncmpcpp :)

At the risk of being told RTFM... ...is this the way to have the authentication agent available on every workspace? I've only been able to get it to work on a single workspace. Okay... I'm ready for the blisterin' I'm about to receive...

@Miyo Linux. Are you talking about lxpolkit? If so, I have it set up on my machine in the autorun section and a quirk set to float anywhere. It seems to work pretty well.

@@linuxdabbler Yes sir...a polkit. Thanks for answering. :D

Hay @linux dabbler.... I Have a question for you. This may be a Quirks thing not sure... Been on SpectrWm almost as long as you. I use a different computer to do my VirtualBox stuff on because I can get it to work on right on SpectrWm. When I start a VB on, say #8 and VB starts full screen. Then I start a VM, it takes 1/2 of #8 screen. So VB on one 1/2 and Vm on the other. Now if I want to use the full screen of the VM I move VB to #7 and I'm still on #8 with a full screen VB. (Not Ctrl F) Now I'm locked to that workspace #8 and the VM until I exit the VM and then I can move around in SpectrWm once more! How do you have VB set so you can still switch between workspaces and VB doesn't lock you to just one workspace... It's a bit a pain in the assssettt... :-( Thanks for any help! LLAP
@linuxdabbler3 жыл бұрын
@Bruce Scott. I'm not sure on the virtualbox quirk. I was thinking have it start as floating, or maybe iconify your workspace 8 VB program... My config uses MOD + i for this. Or maybe have your workspace 8 layout set to max so your newest VM will just take over your screen when you open it up and hopefully won't lock you down to one workspace. I've never used virtualbox on spectrwm, but I hope this can help.
@BrucesWorldofStuff3 жыл бұрын
@@linuxdabbler Thanks for the reply! It really does not matter what workspace the VM is on it is locked to that one workspace. I can not go anywhere. :-( So if you do not use VB on SpectrWm how are you making the VM videos using SpectrWm ? I have to drop to my Cinnamon desktop in order to use the computer and VM at the same time... I'll give OTB a shout and see how he has SpectrWm setup for VB... Thanks again for the reply... :-D LLAP

@Bruce Scott. I'm using virt-manager. I switched from virtualbox after upgrading from debian stretch to buster and finally to testing because virtualbox isn't in the repos anymore. So instead of figuring out a hacky way to get it working, I switched to virt-manager and once I got over the small learning curve... It has been solid for me. Rarely ever an issue with any OS... Including BSD's.
@BrucesWorldofStuff3 жыл бұрын
@@linuxdabbler HaHAHA I thought it might be magic... Lol I tried Virt-manager 3 weeks ago and it was a disaster. I was trying to get away from the VB locked workspace... :-( Guess i'll stick with going back to Cinnamon... (Insert Sad Face Here)... Looked at your Spectrwm.conf on Github. Our conf's are mostly the same. :-) You made a few changes and it looks and read easier than mine... LOL Thanks for your time! LLAP
