Such a clear explanation, and hearing how you prefer to use it is inspiring!

This is a super easy to understand video. For those who don't understand, there's basically two approaches. The first approach is to adjust in the input level. The second approach is to adjust the clip level. Both approaches can lead to -4db of peaks, but maintain a nice signal.

Great pointers. Gold Clip is excellent, it's the gold standard clipper.

Love this plugin so far...Question: does pushing the input level fader drive the amount of Gold saturation? Or is it solely on the amount of the Gold knob? Thanks!

Hello, thanks for the question. pushing into the clipper simply clips the signal more. Gold uses the information from the clipper. However, the more clipping you do the less clean Gold Processing will sound. I often start by pushing the signal to the clip point, but without clipping and then use gold. This article may help. www.schwabedigital.com/sdblog/gold

I would like to know how to set the peak ceiling - I set at-0.20db - as I do in a limiter.

I generally leave it at o and follow the clipper with a limiter, but I have my limiters ceiling at -.5

Can/should we use this in instrument busses?
@schwabedigital8 ай бұрын
Absolutely -- I am others are using it on vocals, buses, kicks, snares, 808s and even time based effect return channels.

@@schwabedigital Thank you SO very much! So would you recommend this to be the final tool on instrument busses?

Biggest problem I crossed when using this method during trial period is that the Δelta feature isn't working as expected. When hitting the Δ button we should monitor ONLY what GC is taking away from input signal. It's a pity that's not the case. Btw you could also consider rising the input ceiling. Why 12 dB only?

Hello, thank you for the comment. However, that is incorrect. Delta allows you to hear the difference between input and output. The difference is what is added AND what is taken away. Since Gold Clip both adds and subtracts from the signal, it can be misleading. With Gold Clip’s delta, you will hear what is added by Gold and the clipper and what is taken away by the Alchemy, Box Tone, and the clipper again. Even minimal phase over sampling changes the signal from input and output and will show up as a bleed in the top end. Since Gold Clip is both additive and subtractive, this function is somewhat useless when you have all functions of Gold Clip activated. To make the delta function useful, you must only activate one function at a time. It is the reality of a phase inversion process. For context, if a eq had a phase inversion process you would hear the positive gain eq points as much as you hear the negative gain eq points. For this reason, I considered removing delta to avoid confusion from users who do not fully understand how a phase inversion delta function works. Admittedly is is confusing on a additive/subtractive plugin. If you want to truly hear what is being added or taken away you must use one function of gold clip and then activate delta to hear what it is doing. Regarding the 12 dB input, if the 12 dB is not enough, you can adjust the ceiling setting down to -36 dB, allowing 48 dB of gain adjustments.

@@schwabedigital Dear Ryan, (assuming it's you :p) I don't think my observation is incorrect, unless I'm missing something, which in this case I do apologise in advance but let me try explaining better the issue here. I'm testing the Δ feature on the following cases and I get different results in each case. 1. In the first example, like you did in the video, I'm simply rising the INPUT fader to +12. There is some clipping occurring. By hitting the Δ button I hear ONLY the difference between unprocessed and processed signal. Signals are canceling and only few clicks are left! The information of audio we are losing! All great! 2. Second example, which is essentially the same thing as in example 1, I'm dropping the ceiling level to -12 instead, leaving INPUT and OUTPUT faders at unity gain. Thoracically, when hitting Δ button I should get the same audio signal as in the first example, correct? Am I missing something? BTW NOTHING else is engaged. No GOLD or ALCHEMY tweak, just clipping. Thank you in advance!
