Very nice Kim. When the news is all doom and gloom, and the weather bleak, your videos are a ray of sunshine. They are really appreciated, thank you !!

I love taking shots of rocks but I usually use my vintage TLR with B&W film. It just seems to work and traditional yellow and red filters isolate the different rock colours. I loved your shot of the pebbles in the groove. BTW Is that a new Benro tripod and head I spy?

I really liked this video, beaches have always attracted me for their abstract potential. As I saw the video at 10:40 I was screaming 'behind you' at that lovely light on the outcrop and was really pleased when you made an image there. Thanks for posting.

Looked like a nice day on the Scot Coast, we're fogged in here in Vancouver British Columbia right now. Watched a video of yours last fall (2021) in it you were filming the abstract pattern's of the sand on a beach. You mentioned odd numbers, to include 3 or 5 waves in the sand, always odd numbers. That got me into Abstract Photography, thanks for that Ms. Kim!

I could spend many days photographing studies of those rock formations. Amazing! The flat slanted rock expanse at the beginning of your vid reminded me of the floor of some ancient Greek temple that had collapsed and cracked. Seems so man formed!

As you play in the rocks a flash or video light will bring out some of crystals in the granites. You might to explore cross polarization if you use the flash. Most importantly have fun.

I love shooting golden hour but the time pressure always gets to me...trying to find a composition as the light moves and changes. You would have the added pressure of trying to capture video at the same time so I really appreciate the effort you go through to take us on that journey with you❤️ Lovely images! I think my favs are the first one with the pebbles and the last one with the golden light on the rocks and the swaying grass.

You're in luck here because I'm a geologist :) What you have there is one rock type, apart from the "pebbles". It's sandstone. You can tell from the colour of the rock, where it's not encrusted and stained, and from the way it's weathering. It also has some layering preserved in the rock. The pebbles are another matter altogether. Since they will be coming from other sources and washing into the area, you will get various rock types. There are sandstone pebbles there, but there are also pebbles of granite that I can see, maybe a few very dark rocks (maybe gabbros and/or volcanics), some limestone maybe and some of those pure white looking ones are most likely quartz/quartzite. All those pebbles will be washing down in streams and coming from the ocean itself, from weathering of the rocks under the sea by currents and waves. Just to confirm my thoughts, I just looked up the geology of the Moray Firth and surrounds and my suspicions were correct :) It also means that some of the pebbles are also from metamorphic rocks that formed when the part of Scotland you're in there underwent a mountain building episode about 500 million years ago, called the Caledonian Orogeny. That was the same episode that also built part of the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern US.

Thank you Carl! I knew the cliffs around the area and the orange rock I was shooting was sandstone but I didn't realise the bigger black rock was too.

I really like the energy in the grasses... I believe ISO lo0.3 is roughly ISO 50, but don't quote me on that, I've done much the same with the D850. It goes down to lo1.0 which is an ISO of 31 according to Lightroom.

Kim, I've just been looking back over some old videos (well, not that old) and the quality of this latest one is so much more sharp and clear - really really good. Are you using a different camera now or doing something different? It's really brilliant whatever it is.

When it comes to walking on slippery rocks take a clue from fishermen who wade in rivers on slippery algae covered rocks and that is felt soled boots. Even though not 100% slip proof I would say 90%. Great photography!
