Ever wonder what the hype is about gaited horses?
This at-home video with amateur riders and regular trail horses is just to show you the difference between a nicely gaited horse and one that is not.
Enjoy!!
This video is done on T W Ranch (Home of: Trinder's Tennessee Walking Horses) near Russell, Manitoba Canada.

More accurate to say a gaited horse doesn't bounce up and down

👏👏👏So nice to see someone that knows how to ride a gaited horse bitless, loose reins, natural head set & gait. Wonderful & beautiful. Well you could keep your reins looser & his head would be lower & his neck more extended which would prevent u-neck & hollow back which causes pain.

For those who dont know, gaited horses have special, usually natural gaits that are extremely smooth.

Neither one of those horses are sorrel. Sorrels & chestnuts do not ever have black manes & tails. The gaited horse is a grey rabicano w/ 4 stockings & bald face, hes grey not black. The non-gaited horse is dark bay not black.

Good video that shows why I prefer non gained horses. The grace of the trot shows in the dark horse. I have owned both and love the rhythm of the trot and canter, the suspension and swing, once learned is a delight to dance with. The running walk is a scurry with an irritating head bobbing along with it. While gaits maybe better for some, for a athletic rider with a decent seat and light hands, the rythyms and added suspension of the trot and canter can rise to the airs above ground. Haute Ecole. Sadly neither rider possesses the skill either horse deserves. The dark horse looks like it might have some fresian blood, but the rider who is labeled a trainer is actually a poor rider, not suited to getting the best action from it and the western tack is wrong altogether such a horse. It doesn’t allow the rider to stay with the horse, that is a horse built for English tack and dressage movements or driving in harness.

Just what I was thinking. I get that some riders don't want to bounce around (and neither do the horses want such banging on their backs), but all you have to do is post, rising and falling in the stirrups in rhythm with the trot. Canter (even gallop) is comfortable enough. Non-gaited seems like a misleading nomenclature; all horses have gaits as do all land animals, even humans and chickens.

And i prefer gaited! We all have our preferences. These aren't your horses - the owners can do with them as they please.

@@tay3167 I know your comment is a long time ago - but would you like to qualify what you say at all? It seems to me that we can't do anything we please with animals, even if we own them. There are people who abuse animals terribly and think they can do what they like because they own them. But I don't think you were meaning it that way, were you - so it might be worth clarifying that point just for the nasty sorts who'd otherwise like to use your words to validate their own nasty inclinations. :-)

I know nothing about horses but I noticed the non-gaited horse looks like it’s prancing. Look at the riders definitely helped one is bouncing and the other is just riding along smoothly with no bounce.

Watch the riders shoulders. One bounces around, one does not. The “quiet shoulders” is a baited horse

People probably think I'm crazy, but I prefer non-gaited horses. I just love the simple walk trot canter. I honestly love posting trot, I assume it's because I'm still young and can take a bit of a beating and recover quickly. And I do ride BOTH gaiteds and non-gaiteds. In fact right now I'm training a couple lovely gaited boys. Both are great, and super fun to ride. It's an experience everyone should try, cause it's quite unique. However when it comes to buying my own personal horses, it's non gaited for me. Perhaps when I'm old I'll truly appreciate gaited horses

Also Another reason why I prefer non-gaited horses.... They force you to become a better rider and develop better balance. I'm the type of person who wants to better myself in everything I do. As much as I enjoy riding gaited horses, I enjoy challenging my balance on the bouncier horses, and it makes me a better rider as a result.

So galloping or gaited walking more efficient/faster for a horse?
@coinwater8511
@coinwater8511 10 ай бұрын
Galloping is much faster but can't be sustained as long. The horse will tire out. So if you're going a long distance, a galloping horse will not be able to gallop the whole way without being tired. Plus if it's any kind of uneven terrain, galloping can be dangerous (risk the horse tripping and hurting itself and rider). A horse that is moving with a gait, such as a foxtrot, running walk, or rack, is moving much slower, but in a way that is much more comfortable to the rider and is sustainable over much longer distances.

Gaited is just so smooth and comfortable. Try'em and never trot again. Rode a gaited mule on a long camping trail ride and it was even smoother than my Tennessee Walker back home.

No they just speed walking so the are never in mid air/never off the ground so you don't bounce in the saddle which is easier on the rider.
@elliehensey7691

Yes, non baited horse trot, if you watch the bays legs they're moving in pairs it's a 2 beat movement which springs you up slightly you have to train a lot to sit to the movements, the gaited racks or tolt etc depending on the breed or where you are, it's a 4 beat movement, seems all the motion goes on underneath the horse resulting in a really smooth ride with no bouncing, they're really great for older riders, anyone with physical problems as you can just sit there easily without building loads of muscle
@antoniacarroll953
@antoniacarroll953 2 жыл бұрын
They take the same number of steps, the timing is just different. Gaited horses step one foot at a time while trotting is two feet at a time. I guess you could say there are less steps with trotting if you mean each step is two legs at once.

So what is the difference, technically speaking. A gaited horse can walk around with its back staying relatively flat, and on a non gaited horse, even when walking slowly, it bounces up and down a lot?
@ligt18098
@ligt18098 4 жыл бұрын
The non-gaited horse is a 2 beat gait (Trot) where the front left and back right leg hit the ground at the same time and on the next beat the front right and back left leg hit the ground. The gaited horse is a 4 beat gait (Rack [I think]) where the front left leg hits the ground slightly before back right leg, and same for the opposite side. (Basically a faster walk)

You could read some of the comments, or any description of what a gaited horse is, because they all say that gaited horse is a smoother ride. It is pretty obvious which one is gaited and which one isn't with that in mind.
