Reckless here being used in the sense that GOD would do anything, even to the point of putting himself at risk (Jesus' death) to show His love for us. He placed His reputation on the line to show us that He would do or give anything even His Son's life to save us. To that I say, Thank you, Father,Son and Holy Ghost for going to the most dangerous, risky length to save me!

That's why the song suggests that there's nothing, even dangerous heights or depths to come after and save His wayward children. He laid it all on the line. If that isn't reckless love, I don't know what is. I would imagine that even the angels must have wondered for a moment, why He would go to such lengths to save a fallen race. As much as I don't like to think about what Jesus went through on the cross, I am so glad He did.

I thought that way about this song when I first heard it as well! But God’s love is reckless in that He still gave it to us while we were yet sinners. He gave it to us knowing that we don’t deserve it, that we would mess up, stumble, fall, misuse it and not understand it! It’s beyond human comprehension. This is the Merriam-Webster definition of the word reckless, copied and pasted exactly as it appears on the internet: 1: marked by lack of proper caution : careless of consequences 2: IRRESPONSIBLE What you have described is Mercy and Grace. Mercy being: not receiving what is deserved (destruction) and Grace being: receiving what is not deserved (His salvation). In attributing recklessness as a characteristic of God's love you are attributing recklessness as a general characteristic of God Himself. I see nothing in the Bible that can be even loosely interpreted as God being marked by a lack of proper caution and/or careless of consequences, or irresponsible. These are attributes of the imperfect gods of a humanist world. I neither like nor dislike the human definition of reckless. It is what it is. But what it "isn't" is an attribute of our Holy God. We have the only perfect God! Standing before God, we each will answer for every word that has come forth from our mouth. I'm sure I've got plenty I'm going to answer for but calling God reckless is not going to be one of them.

God loved and is continuing to love us no matter the consequences no matter the circumstances no matter what we do he still loves us. Why? Because God is love and that is what he does he loves unconditionally. He loves without caution. He loves without needed a reason. He loves because he is the full embodiment of Love. The Webster dictionary version of the word reckless makes it a bad thing but being reckless with love is definitely not a bad thing because it is an uncontrollable uncontainable unconditional love that surpasses all earthly stupidity and surpasses the earthly mind to get to the spirit.

I believe that many of the people who would use the term reckless and relate it to God are doing so because of the youngness of their walk. As Hebrews and 1st Corinthians describe the milk drinkers in the faith, these believers are saved as all of us are but may not understand as much about God and the Bible as they will in the future. I am in no way saying that I fully understand or will ever fully understand God or the Bible. But a basic lack of understanding about the attributes of God as found in many new and young believers does not affect their salvation but it can injure their Witness which might create a failed opportunity in introducing non-believers to God and his Son Jesus. I thought that way about this song when I first heard it as well! But God’s love is reckless in that He still gave it to us while we were yet sinners. He gave it to us knowing that we don’t deserve it, that we would mess up, stumble, fall, misuse it and not understand it! It’s beyond human comprehension. So while we may not like our human definition of “reckless” it is in essence exactly the kind of love that is poured out upon those He called to Himself before we ever knew we were being called!

This is the Merriam-Webster definition of the word reckless, copied and pasted exactly as it appears on the internet: 1: marked by lack of proper caution : careless of consequences 2: IRRESPONSIBLE What you have described is Mercy and Grace. Mercy being: not receiving what is deserved (destruction) and Grace being: receiving what is not deserved (His salvation). In attributing recklessness as a characteristic of God's love you are attributing recklessness as a general characteristic of God Himself. I see nothing in the Bible that can be even loosely interpreted as God being marked by a lack of proper caution and/or careless of consequences, or irresponsible. These are attributes of the imperfect gods of a humanist world. I neither like nor dislike the human definition of reckless. It is what it is. But what it "isn't" is an attribute of our Holy God. We have the only perfect God! Standing before God, we each will answer for every word that has come forth from our mouth. I'm sure I've got plenty I'm going to answer for but calling God reckless is not going to be one of them.

really? reckless def.- "marked by lack of proper caution : careless of consequences." God loves everyone, knowing full well in advance that most will never love Him back, follow his commandments, or his plan of salvation. from our standpoint, it is reckless. To love someone, regardless of the consequences of loving them.

But God does care about the consequences Jesus prayed in the garden of Gethsemane that if there is any other way to let it be done before he was crucified and loving someone who won’t love you back isn’t the definition of reckless that called unconditional love I get the heart behind this song don’t get me wrong but I just wish the songwriter was more careful choosing that word
