Sooo…Tasty….Very old traditional recipe.. Bring back memories..a little giggles.. So we had paw paw trees in our garden.. 2 of them.They used to bare beautifully. Ffg year they both blossomed and bared , Weeks later, the tree on the far left, stopped baring. My mom was curious, this neighbor ; famous aunty Shantie, told mom, she knew why it wasn’t producing any fruit. Cause it was a “Male Tree”🤣😂🤣😂Gosh the way I laughed so hard, my mom was gullible she believed the lie.. I took mom to science, I was 9yrs old. Plot was Aunty Shantie, was stealing them All along.. Mom was furious, but laughed it out at the end. Old saying goes “10 days rogue gets caught in 1 day..l😂😅🤣 Thanks for sharing your beautiful curry with us🤩love Anesa

Hi Anesa. This story made me laugh! Poor aunty Shantie got caught! It reminds me of a story from when we were kids that my mom told us was the reason for pawpaw trees being called pawpaw. It goes along the lines that the women from the barracks would go down to the river to bath in the afternoons, and sometimes this would coincide with a shift of men coming home from the sugarcane mill. The women would see the men approaching from a distance and shout paw paw in tamil which meant go go so that the men would divert their route. And that's how the pawpaw came to be named...

Thank you dear lady for sharing this recipe with us. I have a papaya tree here in my garden in Florida, it is full of still green papayas at the moment, and looking for a recipe online, I have found your video. Fortunately I have several curry leaf bushes in the garden, also (it spreads like wildfire), so I have everything I need for this dish.

Yes in KZN everyone had a pawpaw tree or mango trees and all sorts of herbs including curry leaves. The land was abundant and people resourceful.

Hello Sweet Mama! Green papaya curry is very tasty along with a salted fish chutney.Nowadays in Mauritius papaya is a luxury fruit more expensive that fruits imported from South Africa as nearly nobody d`ont have a papaya tree as in the past due to concrete building everywhere.I also had to emphasize the amazing health benefits of green papaya. It contains more papain a digestive enzyme that helps to break down protein in the body than ripe papaya. Papain helps to improve digestion. Green papaya contains a good source of fiber and latex which help wastes to pass from the colon easier.y Carotenoids are found in papaya, they are converted by the body into Vitamin A. Vitamin A boosts eye health, prevents macular degeneration. Thank you for showing to your younger audience that papaya can be cook as a vegetable.Enjoy!

Where do you get your pawpaws from because those are not the pawpaws we grow in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. Our are small and buttery with a few black seeds.
@GaithreeDeviLuckan Жыл бұрын
These were from my brother in Newlands West in Durban South Africa. It must be different cultivars of pawpaw that you get, possibly made to be more pleasant to eat when ripe.

Yes it’s similar but doesn’t get as soft, retains some texture to it. And had less of a sweet taste
