This authentication option will be more and more significant over time.Just being able to say, "This is the original raw/jpeg file," will confirm who took the picture. As a bonus, it might also help tracking down stolen cameras.

The feature updates are great but most important is did Leica address the freeze issues, misaligned RF out of the box, etc? Ive met quite a few people, and myself included, who want to buy the m11 but have passed on it because of way too many possible issues. As always, really enjoyed your video and review of it. Gorgeous and sexy camera, time will tell if Leica ironed out the issues from the standard M11.

I’ve been lucky where I didn’t really have that issue and after 1.6 firmware it was non-existent. There was another firmware update today that also brought some bug fixes. It’s interesting because I see quite a few public complaints about this issue, but the people I meet say they’ve never had that bad of a problem.

@@GajanBalan I really appreciate the reply and the insight. I agree with you that it seems really hit or miss, really no in between. Either it happens badly to someone or it doesn't happen at all. I'm pretty excited for the M11p, I admit. When the time does come to get one, I then have to decide between the black or the silver lol

Good to here. Like @deetroiter, i have been sitting on the M11 fence due to reports of widespread problems. It would certainly be good to know that the recent firmware updates fixed the majority of the issues. Love the review Gajan, thanks!

I’ve also had no problems with my m11m so far, but only time will tell. I waited for a while to buy one because I was also worried about the rangefinder alignment issues and freezing because my last m10m had huge alignment issues straight out of the box, but none here at the moment!

Likewise. I’ve had no problems with my M11, which I bought the first month it was available. It’s a nightmare for those who have, either because the quality of the camera wasn’t good enough or their settings/style of using prompted problems. As ever, those who have problems shout about it, but those who are happy rarely do so.

Hi Gajan; in regular M11 there is a copyright menu .. you can enter your name .. is this new feature different than the copyright menu in M11?

It isn’t. The M11P has a new chipset that’s encrypting the metadata itself so it cannot be altered. It works differently than the standard copyrighting we’ve seen in digital cameras.

The M11 doesn’t have sapphire glass. From what I recall, it’s the gorilla glass you’d see on smartphones.

Timeless would be a mechanical Leica. The sensor and electronics will be absolute just like any other camera. That said, if I had the choice between this and my M11, I’d take the P. I always cover the red dot.

It seems that digital still photography is maturing, and a camera like the M11-P will be 'current' for quite a few years. Older digital M cameras hold up quite well.

Out of curiosity, do you still use Fuji or have completely gone all in on Leica? Only Fuji I have now is the X-T5. Love it as an everyday no worries camera. But love the images coming out of my Leica M11 and Q2.

That delta in price lost for the sale is essentially what you’d be paying for the new features. So let’s say, would you pay around $3,000 to have an M11 that has 4x storage, tougher display, and the ability to encrypt your files? For me, the answer is no. But it might vary from person to person.

Please avoid M11 based bodies at all costs, i had 5 different bodies these last 2 years (3 m11, m11m and recently m11p for 2weeks) ALL were plagged with freezes, crashes and slow downs, i'll use my M lens collection with SL2-S until maybe a stable M12 is out ...
