I have a Green Beret buddy who did 3 tours in the sand box and has 2 bronze stars. He told me that when they were working with any other service except the Marines, they stayed well away from those services main areas and always provided for their own security because the average army, navy or air force unit was the epitome of a clusterphuck. He said the Marines consistently, and without exception displayed the highest level of proficiency, professionalism, and skill, unseen anywhere else except for a few highly specialized units of other services, IE the Green Berets and seals. He said that he and the other men in his unit always slept soundly at night when there were Marines around.

Not necessarily. The elite forces of all branches of American military have smaller units for a reason. Fewer people, fewer targets, less noise, tighter bonds. They are elite because they EARNED IT, and they don't need a battalion to get the job done.

And basically the navy has all of them. Seals are our soldiers., we have pilots for our aircraft, the marines are basically owned by the Navy, so again the Navy has it all.

Lousy story. Having more Earth military units would have been more realistic. Where were the Navy space ships? I know the Marines believe they are capable of winning any battle but against an invasion fleet?

Please learn the difference between counter offensive and counter attack. Where is the artillery and air support? Where are the combat engineers and logistics? One platoon would not be nearly enough for this scenario. Nice sentiments but learn something about military organization, tactics and strategy before writing stories like this.
