Man in his garage reviewing a retro refrigerator after a beer. Perfect American dream.

Bought a Galanz and it was delivered in a box that was not all smashed up. We took it out of the box and were happy to see there were no dents like numerous reviewers had complained of. Plugged it in and heard a click & came back to it 48 hours later only to realize it was not running but the compressor was warm to the touch. Moved it around and plugged it into different outlets and it would click on but never run. Royal PIA to re-box it and return it to the store. I would pass on this brand for sure!

Update!!! I moved this fridge into my climate controlled office earlier this year and it is great. Again, my biggest complaint with this fridge is that it's not well suited for a cold, unheated garage.
@4paulseyes2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. You kind of have it right but in reverse. It's the freezer that keeps the fridge cold so, when the fridge isn't calling for coldness the freezer isn't needed to come on hence the warmer temp in the freeze.

That's what I had meant to say if I said it wrong. Thank you

Probably could have placed a small insulation cover over the compressor area. The compressor should stay warm. The worst thing about this Galanz is that when I relay starter goes Galanz has no replacement parts for. There are parts. You will see the 1 or 3 pin relay and not the two that comes with it. I ordered the one pin by mistake. I just ordered the three pin and I will just connect the same two numbers and that should work.

That stove is pretty cool. We have a Wedgwood from the 1920s. It’s a decoration and microwave stand. We have all the burners, but o haven’t tried fire it up. I was told that they ran on naphtha back then. Yours looks great!

Very good explanation, I’ve looking to understand why my freezer turn in water sometimes, now I know, refrigerator in very low temperature the freezer stops working because the refrigerator dasn’t turn on enough to keep the freezer working properly. 👍👏👏 Thank you!

Why do you transfer the items to the other fridge for winter? Is the fridge turn off during winter?

I keep it on but If I know I'm not going heat the garage for 3 or 4 days I'll move everything out of the freezer
@thedomesticatedhillbilly30404 жыл бұрын
When the ambient temperature stays below 55 the freezer does not freeze very well.
@robertmoreno54993 жыл бұрын
Us that because it actually needs heat to produce cold ? Like Heat of Fusion?

Not exactly well known here either but the price is low enough to take the chance. What country are you in, if I may ask.

Its not just the Galanz, its all these 3.1 fridges and the 4.5s ive tried its such a pain to get the fridge and freezer dialed in and i live in Long Beach CA the temps are mild and it still struggles and the freezer still isnt great, ur always messing with that dial to keep stuff frozen but not mess up the stuff in the fridge and things in my small fridge never keeps food as long as it does in my big full size fridge but.its GREAT for drinks

Does this Galanz work outside when it's hot ? I have one and the back inside freezes up and the inside top drips ..also the sides on the outside are very warm to the touch
@thedomesticatedhillbilly30403 жыл бұрын
I mean I wouldn't have it outside exposed to the elements. I can't say what's going on with yours but I don't have any problems with mine in a garage. But just like any fridge/freezer at this price point, frost will eventually build. I guess it would also depend on where you live and the usual ambient temperature. I would just guess that this fridge is probably not the most efficient fridge if it's 100 degrees out all the time.
@kcosbey2 жыл бұрын
More fridges are not rated for garages (or cold areas), as strange as that sounds. I was shocked too, but found that fridges are engineered for room temp, and will not have a long shelf life in cold garages.
@emilystitt93733 жыл бұрын
So the freezer stops working but does the refrigerator part still work below 55?
@thedomesticatedhillbilly30403 жыл бұрын
Yes. The fridge stays at temp regardless in my experience.
@manny65845 ай бұрын
Probably doesn't matter because if it's way under 55 in the garage, everything in the fridge will remain cool anyway.

I live in the basement with limited space. This fridge is my favourite colour and has more freezer space than my small fridge that has barley anything. I’m worried about the few bad things I have heard or read about this product. Hope it will be okay if I get one. Great video 😊
@mattmopar440 Жыл бұрын
if you wire the light to stay on it should fix this issue BTW the light bulb will produce enough heat to kick the compressor on from time to time
@QuackZack11 ай бұрын
That will maul your electric bill because that might trick the thermostat into thinking the fridge/freezer is hotter than it actually is. In fact, a lot of fridge manuals say to NEVER shine a direct heat source and keep it out of sunlight.

I just bought a new retro blue one and the compressor won’t shut off ! WHy ????
@thedomesticatedhillbilly30403 жыл бұрын
That I don't know. But when you brought it home did you keep it upright or lay it down? Anytime you move a fridge or air conditioner, if you lay it down, you have to stand it back up unplugged for the same amount of time it was tipped over. What happens is the oil and coolant runs out of the pump and can screw up the pump. At least that's my understanding
@robertmoreno54993 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I did have to tip it to take it down the stairs, I plugged it right in I hope I did not damage it I just unplugged it. Stay tuned, thank you
@thedomesticatedhillbilly30403 жыл бұрын
Also idk how long you had it running but it did take mine quite a while initially to get cold. After that it doesn't run too much and is surprisingly quite.
@bucksshots31093 жыл бұрын
Hey man, would you buy this fridge again?
@thedomesticatedhillbilly30403 жыл бұрын
I would. Only thing about it like I said is if the ambient temperature is below 50 the freezer doesn't freeze very well. Knowing that I'm fine with it. It's great in the summer and when I keep the shop consistently heated.

I have the GALANZ 3.0ft Retro red freezer. Bought it a year ago last February (2022) after about 3 months it quit working and things started to thaw. I managed to get a lot out of it before it was ruined. However, the next day it started working again. So, called the company and they said it it happened to unplug for 24 hrs and plug it back in and turn the setting to the lowest. So, this week, I started noticing a putrid smell coming out of the basement and discovered it was the freezer, sometime in the last week or two, it had quit and everything rotted!!! When I was getting ready to clean it, the bloody thing started again. Long story, they said it’s only a year warranty, but, they may give me a 50% refund. I had to send a mess of photos and proof of purchase, but as of right now, May 11/23, not response, but, it was just last night that I sent the info. So, fingers crossed, but I’ll never buy another Galanz Fridge or freezer and am a bit leery of buying anything that they make!
