Even the so called good ones like kathhi and thuppaki have are filled with cringe scenes and overdramatized emotions with the most mediocre performances taking over the film. Are beards, guns and an average storyline enough to pull in audiences ? 10 years ago most tamilians did not watch english shows and sitcoms, now every swiggy wala is watching a breaking bad and posting whatsapp statuses of that yet our industry is stagnant. Halitha is one if the few directors who I admire in Tamil Cinema. Her movies are beautiful with no political non sense, crass jokes, and annoying propaganda. "Sillu Karupatti" was so sweet that it didn't portray anyone in bad light. Characters were so positive. It's hard to make a film without demeaning anyone.

Finally a full fledged round table . Best part was Haleetha getting appreciation and spotlight towards the end . She truly deserves. Lokesh has best clarity of thoughts. GVM was such a sport. Fact is guru Bhai playing his part made in funny rather than him playing. Finally , to BD'S questions : 1. Will new stars come in - Content will create stars ( e g. pradeep) and there will still be stars from nepotism , from other fields (tv) as the mediums are still open 2. Will movies be made for ott and cinema separately - yes and that makes complete commercial sense for filmmakers. But that doesn't stop someone being successful in one medium moving to others. OTT can become a stepping stone as well

Liked that a producer was invited to the roundtable. It gives more perspective and the directors can straight away ask questions, have discussion with them and also give the audience insights. May be in future roundtables, a writer or dialogue writer or anyone else actively involved in the cine industry can also be invited. It makes the roundtable interesting and not feel routine and boring.

I'm feeling grateful and I really appreciate Mr. Baradwaj Rangan to bring this question in the beginning of this interview - "How do you bring in people to theatres and make new stars" (Films from Unknown Faces)" - More often I prefer saying talents. But, As Mr. Gautham Vasudev Menon says, It's in the production house's hands. It's their decision end of the day. I don't know how I'm gonna approach the production side.. I understand that hearing all the stories from all the willing is quite impossible but there must be way to sort this out. Definitely there must be a way. You guys can open the gate for us. Many of us are still waiting outside. But I'm happy with Ms. Archana's reply too. I want these kind of production houses who allows new one's to show their talents. No issues how the result would be. I think lokesh did a tremendous job with a actor like vijay in master, yes there'll be lot of debate regarding the cliches and cattering to the star in the second act, but master was miles better than sivas annathe, Nelson's beast, and vinoths valimai. Stars cattering should be limited and smooth and should not be overdose.

A roundtable with a star, actor, writer, director, producer and distributor would be great because distributors play a greater role too. They know the movie-goers better. A big/star director hesitates to direct a small film because he'd be told he 'lost his market value.' Ranjith and Vetrimaran are exceptions of course. A common assumption is that big directors who are moving to telugu or making sequels or working with next low-tier actors or making web-series are considered 'fading' or losing market. It's based on the confidence in the directors. If their low budget film flops, they can't go back to work with stars. So, they are forced to choose the safer way. Once a big director, always a big director.

To be perfectly honest only Lokesh seems to be very sensible and others can learn from him - what a clarity he has and of course he is the only director who can get all to theatre and Archana Mam clearly speaks business but Love today is clearly a one off but I really hope there is one more Thani Oruvan from their production Haritha - Waiting for the next gem GVM - Explore more genres - you could easily pull off lot of them -there is much more to Cinema than editing and photography - challenge yourself
