@@bharanitharan6209I think he mentioned this. The video which others made “thesis of super deluxe” is one door , similarly thousands of others will open many doors. If he explains the same, others will not think in different way since directer of film is like ultimatum. So he is right on his point of not explaining the shots/ logics.

I loved the adamancy of both sticking to their views on why he should explain/not explain his films. Both were making sense in their own way. The irony is TK giving this interview which in a way was eye-opening and inspiring which served BR's one hour long struggle.

TK can be condensed in to one point: dont bear anything that weighs you down, it can be anything - praise, ego of holding up any achievements you had achieved, anything possitive you think about yourself. This man had dropped everything and just floats around like a breeze, thats what makes us love and envy TK, a vitue to develop.

The most inspiring TK quote for me in this entire interview was when he said “ when you see a product(film)as a business, it’s different but if you see it as an art it becomes a kickass art👌”. So which one you prefer? It’s your choice. Ref 35:00 I also think @ 48:00 when TK was asked why he finds it’s pointless in explaining to audience about a directors choice of shots, he says “with that you close the doors of alternative perspectives and curiosity and given the fact that the people who come to master class amature , removes their freedom to be curious in future, because they are stuck to one perspective to it”. Now BR thinks that masterclass are educational and could inspire enthusiasts to do better but TR thinks it equally shuts other perspective (i.e. 1000 ideas vs 10 ideas), the thing he keeps saying is about more options for curious ideas/perspectives. Quite an argumentative point but an important point. However, nothing would harm in seeing masterclass it’s business in a way but there is no right or wrong as long the director is sincere in his film making objectives. I could see that TK is concern about how the art of filmmaking becomes too institutionalised that it shuts curiosity for alternative perspectives. He want art of filmmaking more democratic. Here I would like to say what’s inspiring is that Barathiraja till today finds it inspiring and quite often says he wished he could have done like TK or Vetrimaran in his films. It show that Barathiraja is ever passionate about learning and doing his craft. In a way timeless. It’s joy to see Tamil Filmmakers past or now have always been bold in thinking how to make their films engage their audience and the variety of stories and film making like Balu Mahendra,Sreedar,Manirathnam,Shankar,Vetrimaran and so on the list goes on..continue to inspire younger directors. In recent times the director is Darani Rajendran “Yaathisai” is another great effort. Should continue to have a democratic thinking with variety of creative ideas in Tamil film makers. That’s their strength.

I really enjoyed this interview. A lot of things that TK said resonated with me. After visiting the Smithsonian art museum once, I’d shared pictures of some of the abstract paintings on Facebook and jokingly said that they reminded me of the paintings my son had made when he was a toddler. I remember some people took offense to that post and one person even suggested I take an art class to appreciate such paintings. And I was wondering why I should have someone teaching me how to appreciate something. It either appeals to me or it doesn’t … it’s instinctive and in the moment. Having someone explain to you how it must be appreciated seems, for the lack of a better word, second-hand. And almost paternalistic. As if to say, this is the way this art must be seen.

When Baddy asked TK whether he likes to make films, he instantly replied NO- to address that the restrictions and freedom of this profession is substantially lesser comparatively. I got reminded of a similar statement from Lokesh Kanagaraj in an interview, where he mentioned how can you be nonchalant about various things as a director, without having to worry about changing and adapting yourself to an environment to fit-in. Thus he wouldn’t hesitate to jump into a different profession if this doesn’t work anymore. It’s fascinating how they share similar perspectives about filmmaking in general.

I dont think any film maker has ever spoken with this kind of conviction. The man speaks his mind for real. Baradwaj may seem to be a bit pushy on certain questions (48 to 53 is my favorite part) but i guess its the best way to understand whats running through this person's mind (Now TK might disagree and couldn't care less 😛) But this conversation had to be done. TK is actually way too practical , it comes across as him being philosophical. Both BR and TK perspectives are right from my perspective as I'm a fan of both of them. Like BR said , To know more about TK would enrich my knowledge in cinema ....but like TK said , the more I know about one's perspective it kills the reason for art being subjective. My god, this was a masterclass. What a brilliant mind this guy has. As a commercial artist i always struggled to convey my art. Which I really don't have to. Could never phrase it better than TK did. Yes it's not clear but at the end of the day you should not be explaining art but just enjoy it experience it. It's subjective. Kudos to BR as he was probing the matter with the intention of clarifying the mystery of this art. But that's the thing, you can't articulate or put great art into words. The moment you do that, you lower the value of that piece of work. As it becomes the next formula or the 'set way' people will start adapting it. Guess that's where kumar was trying take BR, and was very successful at it. Brilliant interview. Thankyou for this BR. Love your work. Please keep bringing to us such interesting conversations. Thankyou once again.

Mr. TK is a kind of Film-Maker, who understands the real meaning of cinema. For him its not just "Entertainment" like many of the audiences or film buffs expect. For him ultimately its art and the purpose of the film that purely trying to communicate to the audience. That's why he make films once in 4 -5 years but his films teach a lot of things. Thank You Baddy Sir🙏🏻 for giving such an impacting interview with this genius.

I agree to kumararaja because after watching a movie if someone watches a video essay on it. Like to understand what the film really meant. It really shuts your perspective. A person watching a film would have thought of an allegory or an analogy in a way of his own. But then he goes searches something on it and sees a different person explaining it or even the filmmaker himself or herself explaining this. It kind of makes the viewer feel wrong and his/her thought process just stops and then they believe in what others said. That’s the very reason I strongly stay away from videos that explain films and moreover a lot of filmmakers don’t even like to explain their films. They just want the viewers to perceive it in their own way.
