The only thing where Imtiaz Ali fucked-up with this film is not releasing it in theaters. He would have earned way more than what Netflix paid him, especially from overseas. Punjabis would have gone crazy re-listening to those songs in theaters. This a pretty good biopic. I honestly didn't have high hopes, but Imtiaz surprised me with this one. I wasn't impressed by ARR's soundtrack as much as Baradwaj though.

@@hulkhogan8339 Chamkila is huge among Punjabis even today. It could have earned anywhere close to 100cr from Punjab + Overseas only. They could have anyway sold it to Netflix/Prime later. This is my opinion after watching the film as a Punjabi.

I didn't like the film as much as l'd like to. The narrative structure Imtiaz chose to employ was perfect, however, there were some editing choices which felt very odd for me. And that constant use of animated sequences also took me out of the experience. It was an enjoyable watch but not as immersive as l'd imagined it to be.

A beautiful movie indeed. My only complaint is those jarring and shoddy animations that kept popping up randomly and broke the flow of the story and botched the otherwise consistent visual palette. They were 100% not needed, IMO.
@anishs96996 ай бұрын
Imtiaz Ali made this movie so realistic, it really haunts you. The most horrifying scenes was right when the dead bodies transported from the crime scene till their house and Chamkila's father's reaction, I actually felt I am witnessing this in real. Chamila's tunes were very melodious and those songs sounded much better than the original

Your review itself was so beautiful and took me back to the movie and its small bits. Good job done at your end too & yes the film was a delight and it also is heartwarming and heartbreaking in the same breath. Leaves us wondering who are these gatekeepers of morality. And are they who keep the society free from freethinking? Apart from entertainment the film was a contemplative take on the phenomenon called “morality”.
