One of the CLASSIC underground street east coast labels from back in the day; completely under-rated, off the radar. Lots of play in NYC.

Dana & Lawrence Goodman put on DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. I believe their first album Rock The House was put out on the Pop Art label before it got picked up by Jive Records.

Actually, this is the ORIGINAL from the NYC/Philly area, whence came all the other Florida/west coast tunes.

Sounds like Galaxxy have been listening to Paul Hardcastle who breaked into the charts earlier that same year. Or was this track released prior to 19"?
@souporsonic9 жыл бұрын
ventende recalling Hardcastle was no earlier than '85

Bill Hunter Hardcastle released Daybreak (First Light) in 1984. This record was published same year. Roland had a drum machine that was made the same year, so I guess that's where the resembling is. He later released Zero One with Universal funk that also really utilized the same drum sound that's used here, it was popular with oldskool hiphop acts as well. Like Bambaata and more, around the same period in 1984/85. Renegades of funk for instance. It was very inspired from that electro style that was adopted from Kraftwerk in the 70's, they had a similar drum sound going on way earlier but sound like they also switched to this exact drum characteristic with Music Non Stop and all that stuff.

NYC/Philly/Nj area was the center of the world for hip hop, rap, electro, house; all the Euros and everyone else went there for inspiration..the 808 and Memorymoog/Prophet synth sound all over those records started in the early 80s with tracks like Planet Rock, that also went on to inspire Detroit techno.
