Nostalgic is the word I think you're looking for. I just ordered one on from Amazon about the same price you paid.

Way to go Grayman. It's a really nice radio. Clean. That's the word; clean modulation. Nice and strong and receiver is really nice. Let me know how you make out with your radio and thanks for posting a comment!

Very underrated CB! Actual Frequency Counter so if you add channels it displays correctly. Love mine for SSB DX.

I remember back in the early 70's CB clubs were huge. They wore vests with patches, compared equipment and talked to each other on the CB, even that they were all in the same parking lot. (ha ha) It's been a long time since I considered a CB in my truck but they have gotten so cheap I'm thinking "why not". At one time Cobra was considered the top brand, is that still true?

Hey Wyatt!! Good to see you bro. CB radio's around here are very popular. Just about every truck or car has a cb antenna. Bubble pack radios are also popular here. I would say that getting back into CB is really not that expensive. Then you could find out if there are other locals making use of cb band. I started out with putting one of those little Cobra's in the car before we came out here. While here, I found that many people have cb's, so when we got settled in, I went and got some better gear. Cobra makes great radios...148 GTL....25 LTD...if I recall. They're so popular because they are easy to mod.

Okay, good to know. I see a sign along the freeway going to work of a shop that sells CB's. I'll start there and consider what he has to say.

Don't be afraid to overbuy and make sure to start with a really good antenna. If it's for your vehicle, get the Wilson 1000. Ask them if they offer installation. Pay for it and just ensure that they ground the antenna real good to the body. Then look at some radios. They may have radios which were already modded; go for them, otherwise a stock Cobra 148 would be nice. Put the money into the antenna system. It's like a 1/4 mile car...put the money in the final drive to put power to the ground for quick hole shots.

In the 70's guys would mount the antenna in the center of their cabs. I don't want be drilling holes in my cab, so are there other options of where to install the antenna?
@RayBecker6 жыл бұрын
Best spot is right behind the cab on either side of where a tool box would go. Grind a bit of the paint and mount right to the metal. If you have a steel bumper, a 102" whip would be awesome.

They ever fix the cold solder joints? I’m thinking of getting one for my truck because my 148gtl is getting old and the ch display lights are starting to go out.

A Freq counter with 40 channels..??
@johnjones17206 жыл бұрын
Its 10 meter . That thing has a lot of channels. You could get lost. Especially if it's been channeled for more channels like mine

No way to calibrate the meter for SWR?? not neccessary??
@RayBecker5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure there is a trim pot inside to calibrate the meter but you can just use a match box to verify. trying to understand your questions. I found the built in meter was quite good. If you're running low power, just check the match so that you don't weaken the finals. Always use a good match meter
