I played with the Note 5, S6+, and the G4 in a T-Mobile store the other day. For some reason, the G4 just doesn't seem to have "it" to me. If I HAD to choose one out of the two, I'd still pick the Note 5 even without the expandability.

I'm a long time Galaxy user. I've had the S1, S3, Note 3, Note 4.... Then I saw what Sammy was doing to the note 5 with the glass back and no SD slot so I abandoned ship and went for the G4. After two months of dealing with its lackluster screen resolution and brightness and pathetic 120+ minute "quick charge" I returned it and I'm posting from the Note 5... This phone is absolutely fantastic. There is no competition between AMOLED and IPS LCD. The LCD runs hot and drains your battery and it doesn't preforme as well as the AMOLED.

Just got a Note 4 for $500. 5.1.1 update just arrived and finally got it's touchwiz software to match the Note 5/S6 in speed. The QHD Super Amoled display is still gorgeous to look at, Camera performance is pretty much on par with the Note 5 (even PocketNow recognizes this), and I get to keep the removable back and battery, which reminds me I need to order the anker 6400mah battery replacement for my Note 4. IMO, the Note 4 is by far the best all round smartphone right now.

The only problems I can think of in regards to LG, is that the vertical placement of the buttons on the back rather than the sides, prevents the battery from being bigger than it has potential to be. If they did away with that and put them on the sides like every other phone maker, they'd have a lot of room for extra juice. Not only that, but placing the speakers on the front would not only serve to enhance battery size as well, but would give a clear edge to speaker quality over the Note. Everything else is damn near perfect. And that authentic leather back? Keep that up LG. I want to see that become a standard on your devices. I'll never understand how glass and aluminium are considered "premium", but authentic vegetable tanned leather isn't? Pulling out a phone from your pocket adorned in leather is about as fashionable as you can get. That's designer quality ingenuity. AND it serves a practical purpose. Keep that up and I'll have no problems moving over to you guys next year.

My previous phone was a Galaxy Note 2. It stopped working and when I got a new phone I decided to get the LG G4. It's a fantastic phone. The thing is, I don't really care for the extra Note features. When I had the Note 2, the s-pen and the multi-window seemed exciting at first, but over time I just stopped using them, I didn't need them. I don't use the multi-window and the native note app on the G4 either. The G4 is a good phone with a big gorgeous screen, it's cheaper than the S6 and Note 5, and it still has a removable battery and a place for a micro sd card, which are actually important to me.

***** that's extremely unfortunate, but not unexpected. What's the point in putting 4 GB of RAM in a phone and then not allowing it to use it? In the GS6, it was the memory values they had set in the build.prop file. I was hoping maybe they would come to their senses by the time the Note was released, but apparently not. I suspect they're doing it for battery life reasons: Keep apps from running the background so the smaller battery doesn't matter as much.
@ananthu07
@ananthu07 9 жыл бұрын
***** But in this review, it is said that the battery life is around the same as G4. Both has 3000mah battery.So I don't see a point in closing background apps. They better fix it soon.

Putting the lack of expandability aside, I'm really not a fan of the iPhone type unibody glass/metal design of the S6 and the Note 5 (which is just a blown up S6). Not only are they fingerprint magnets and very fragile, but they are also very easy to have slip out of your hand. The G4 with its leather back options is definitely the more attractive device. I have the yellow leather back on mine and I can assure you it catches people's attention far more than any other phone. It looks like a yellow motorcycle jacket; it's pretty damn sick.

This comparison is actually very close and like Michael said, it comes down to personal preference. For me, having the beefier Exynos processor and S-pen is a really nice addition, but then again so is the expandability of the G4 - when my battery goes bad over time i can just swap it (because i hold on to my phones for a long time). The camera is my priority and since they're so evenly matched the solution is simple. Wait and see what microsoft brings to the table in a few months.

I made a big mistake when i sold my g3 and purchased a note 4 but immediately giving it back and taking note 3 because i thought saving few bucks for note 5 will be great since note 3 and note 4 performance difference isn't that big and i will install custom roms and rock it.Unfortunately after seeing Samsung removing all those features which actually made Samsung phones stand above from the rest of the competition like sd and removable storage.I don't really care about removable battery but can't compromise on sd since in most of the countries you don't have high Internet speeds to use those useless clouds.I wish i should have retained note 4.But still happy because my note 3 is giving me enough speed and performance that i require. Samsung better listen to your fans or have the same faith like Nokia had. You aren't apple and don't try to become apple.

Most people have access to wifi or mobile data the majority of the time so I really don't think it's that big of an issue, except of course the rare occasion when your on a 10 hour flight or something. Also, from my experiences files tend to get corrupt on micro sd cards and the internal memory is much quicker at R/W. And as far as the removable battery, I have never carried a spare battery and honestly I don't know anyone who has either. If you are so concerned about needing more battery you can either get a charging case or a power bank. In my opinion the Note 5 is a great upgrade from last year and I'm glad they made the choices that they did.

you do realize alot of people don't have unlimited data to just stream muson spodify or Google music or beats music etc all day. when you're music is on the sd card you don't have to worry about a good internet connection or using your data because you music is on you sd card. also people don't want their photos on the cloud.

+mike white Most songs are about 5-10mb, you could have thousands and still have plenty of space with 32/64gb of storage. And as far as the photos go,I don't like using the cloud either but once I get a few hundred pictures I always transfer them to my pc,just in case my phone gets stolen I don't want to have lost thousands of pictures. Plus, if your device gets stolen and you have a password your photos are safe, with SD cards all the thief has to do is remove your card and he has all your personal photos and videos.

you forgot to speak about some little thing that made me love last year's G3 and really makes me wonder if the note can do any similar one of them is the quick call answering thing ( all I have to do is to pot in on my ear or flip it on the table and it will do everything else if you know what I mean ) also the LG keyboard is still funn to use so the G4 is'nt the less useful phone to me .. I think that both of the phones are just as helpful and easy to use .. it's just that each one shins in different areas

I don't understand the whole "phablets replace tablets" talk. I have never thought that in any shape or form. I just like stuff with big displays. I happily have my G4 (if you even consider it a phablet) and my Surface Pro 3. While yes, I know that the Surface Pro 3 is a hybrid laptop/tablet, but if I didn't have the SP3, I'd probably still have another tablet to go along with it.

this is kinda unrelated, but can someone tell me why removable batteries in phones are pretty small and thin (size wise), but a battery case has to be so heavy and massive (even if its the same capacity)? i know it needs room on the bottom of the case for the ports, but i dont really understand how the thin battery and its technology have to be put in such a bulky package. thanks for any answers

Why would you not point out note5's wireless charging feature, instead you showed that lg is capable of doing it with some tweaks. That's not fair to be honest as it's one key selling point of note5

Ok, so from an enthusiast's and a power user's point of view there is nothing better than the Note 5. Its worth the extra 3 benjamins. BUTT, someone please tell me whether that enclosed battery on the Note 5 will still hold charge well beyond 2 years or will its capacity to hold charge decrease noticeably after say a year?

on every speed test i've seen, the not 5 seems to struggle in multitasking despite it's 4 gigs of ram and the g4 always catches it up because of multitasking

I could live without the battery replacement but no memory expansion and worse yet, no IR blaster is a deal breaker for me. I use my phone on a regular as my remote at home. but the note 5 sure is purdy when it's not covered in fingerprints. I'll stick with my G4 :D

G4 with Nova launcher (paid version). I know myself well enough to know that I won't exploit the S-pen to its full potential. I also like the 20mp camera, even though Samsung has been the benchmark for camera quality. Difficult choice, but I like LG's hardware , expandable storage, interchangeable battery and the back covers does it for me.

I have the G4 for my work phone and Note 4 for my personal phone and I would never consider the G4 over the Note 5. As tired of Android as I am, the G4 overall feels like settling, even when comparing it to my Note 4. It's a good phone and a great camera, but the notes are great phones AND cameras

The spare battery is so 2000, we're already 2015 many smartphone users are using battery bank. But, LG G4 is almost at par with Note 5 or S6 egde +. Still, i'd go for Sammy even though im not a fan of both smartphones.

Personally I am not convinced the LPDDR 4 ram in the Note 5 makes a difference in speed and smoothness. Dont get me wrong, I love samsung and am currently using my Note 3 to type this comment out. I'm just saying that the smoothness may be caused by other factors like the software. Also LG has a damn strong showing this year.

I love my G4. Mostly because it's NOT a same ol' Sammy. LG is the biggest Android competition Sammy has. That says a hell of a lot about how far LG has come along in one year since the disheartening G3.
