Amateur exposure mistakes with the camera as well as an inherent lack of understanding regarding the difference in depth of field between full-frame and a mobile phone. It's one of the main reasons that the first photo looks "sharper" on the Samsung!! He didn't zoom properly while viewing the images, so they didn't process to their full resolution. Made another amateur mistake using the wrong type of noise reduction and yet claims to be a pro... while using Lightroom CC. I genuinely hope no one takes this review seriously, thinking that this phone even comes close to the A7iii. It is impressive, but there is a reason Samsung doesn't dominate the camera market using phone sensors.

To everybody that watches this video and is convinced a camera phone is comparable to a $2,000 full frame professional camera, DON'T BE FOOLED!!! No disrespect to Clayton, but he doesn't really seem to be a very good photographer and not too savvy with his gear. I knew he wasn't very experienced the moment he said he's going to open up his aperture and bring his ISO down a little bit when he was taking a still shot of a sign in broad daylight. Also when he said he shoots in a profile mode, that's something I've never heard of a photographer doing while shooting stills. Plus he mumbles and makes very basic and general comments when comparing photos from the two cameras. Don't let Clayton lead you to believe this new phone is even slightly capable of giving you the same quality or editing canvas a paying client would expect from a professional photographer. I would say Clayton is not an authority on the matter.
@russianhomecat33134 жыл бұрын
David Wayne I can see that Samsung photography is nowhere near dslr quality. All its sharpness comes from post processing of the pictures.
@DecemberMornings4 жыл бұрын
@@russianhomecat3313 exactly right! And that's not to mention the post processing potential for dslr/mirrorless camera images. The Sony he was using has 15 stops of dynamic range and takes 14 bit photos. That's tons of information in the picture's raw files to work with when applied to powerful editing software like photoshop and lightroom. For the run and gun photographer just posting selfies, food, and everyday life on social media, any modern phone is going to suffice and be preferable to a pro grade camera simply for the sake of the utter convenience. But for actual professional work, you wouldn't want to see someone you're paying hundreds of dollars to show up using a damn phone. A pro camera and a phone aren't in the same league.

So long story short, megapixel count ≠ better pictures. It really depends on sensor size, aperture, lens type, and ISO. Megapixels really mean you can crop more of the picture without losing quality. As a camera, the s20 Ultra is a great camera but shouldn't be compared to a DSLR just as you don't compare a go kart to a race car.
@ATXV5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review! I have an A7riii but trying to justify getting the s20 Ultra. Quick question. The s20 ultra photos looked very pixelated compared to the A73. Did you keep the s20 in the default pixel binning 12mp mode? I might have missed if you had compared one of the true 108mp photos with a 24mp photo from the A73. A 12mp file would generally look much lower resolution to a 24mp file, zoomed in. But the 108mp should be making the 24mp photo massively pixelated.

The biggest limit on such a phone is the sensor size which makes the number of megapixels irrelevant at a certain point. The digital zoom shows why. No one is blaming the phone, just the limitations of a raw photo from a phone. I'm sorry but while dynamic range and post production is important, you'll never be able to get the same quality of bokeh in a smartphone, which is vital for portraiture. Instead of comparing pictures of signs and buildings, you should compare both cameras ability to take portraits/weddings I think.

I knew from the moment I saw the title that there is no way a phone will keep up with a full frame camera and optical lenses that let in so much more light. That being said the best camera is the one you have with you to get the shot and in that department the Samsung wins hands down, fast, mobile and easy to take anywhere any time. Nothing else required, no camera bags, lenses, filters etc... That is why I will be going with the Samsung when I upgrade my phone.

Doesn't Sony have a program mode? Shooting my Nikons in auto mode is just not done. The ""P or program mode uses thousands of stored sample photos in order to correct the obvious issues from any shot. This would seem to me to be totally fair, consider that the S20 does this automatically. I have to assume that the Sony has a similar system to Nikon. Also, how does the S20 camera compare an iPhone 11 Pro camera?

No. Only the main sensor and lens, but only at 12MP.

Lol why is that? Because I talk crap about their 100x feature? I don’t think they would pay for that

When comparing pictures of the S20 Ultra in 108 megapixel there's barely any difference with pictures taken by my Fuji X-T2 in _normal circumstances and on screen._ When cropping in for more detail or in situations where a lot of dynamic range is required, the S20 Ultra falls short.

Now the S20 Ultra Is like a Gorilla. Gorillas don't know how to work out, so we don't know their max strength. The S20U needs some updates to go to his best

It's a released products, may as well review it as sold, and do another one later on if the updates improve things enough. Can't wait for all updates or you will be waiting a year because they always make updates ;p

They kept saying they were identical, but in every one I preferred what the Sony produced.
