Throughout the tests, the one thing I continuously notice with the Samsung is that it doesn't bounce nearly as much as the apple phone. It just shows that a good portion of the force is redirected back into the iphone which shows that the samsung is more flexible and efficient at absorbing shock. The second bounces on the iphones may have also further damaged the phone.

The problem with phone glass is trading off scratch resistance for shock durability as you can either have glass more resistant to drops (I.e. that has more flex before shattering and is "softer") or one that is more cosmetically resistant but more brittle, albeit denser. Basically, it's a choice between softer or harder glass at an atomic level which is why you tend to see screen protectors able to bend so far before cracking. A balance would be nice but at the end of the day it's still glass. Personally the iPhone is a nice balance of the two with ceramic shield and decent scratch resistance but otherwisw the issue generally tends to be thst these phones glass scratches easier and is annoying and something that can impact drop resistence as it introduces a potential point of failure over time, let alone the many variable between each drop that kinda make these tests pointless.
@Keepgoing9919
@Keepgoing9919 Жыл бұрын
I’d rather have the more shock resistant glass. It’s not a big deal to throw on a screen protector for scratches and get a new one every so often.

David, here's a way to make more revenue. Have case makers pay you a fee for testing their case and certifying it. In the test you would perform a 2 back drops, a corner drop, and 2 face drops onto concrete from 10ft (or whatever they choose to certify it from). Then give list of all cases that are certified (no damage to the phone whatsoever). Either that or start doing extreme drop tests with cases on (20ft or higher) with each type of drop.

I believe the iPhone test results are from the previously video iPhone vs S22 Ultra, and I know it is costly and kind of redundant but would be nice if a new iPhone was tested just to see if the same results happen again. But I love the video and enjoy watching all videos from PhoneBuff.

I think it's a bit unreliable since the damage from previous tests can have an impact on the dmg on the following tests e.g, the shattered glass.

Let’s be real here, any sane person who cares about there smart phone would buy a case to protect it. It doesn’t really matter what phone manufacturers put in their phones to make it stronger because 1 small drop could easily shatter your device. Remember “Glass is glass and it will break.”

Glass breaking in one drop isn't the purpose of phone drop tests. More phone drops and one of them breaks is.
