Thanks. This is all experimental. I made an orange candle-holder jar for Halloween. It came out okay, but I used too much water. I also didn't know how to break all the bubbles before I baked it. I don't think I'd use water again at all.

You dripped quite a bit more water into the yellow cup than the others. Maybe a 1/2 tsp measuring spoon? Also, you could probably drip some goop over a bald spot with the straw, too. These are so pretty! 😍

At what temperature do you preheat and for long? Don’t you turn them around while baking ?

Have you tried this with hard plastic containers? I'm making custom collapsible lanterns. I just don't know what I should adjust the oven temperature and time to so the plastic won't melt.

Haven’t tried it with plastic - I would be way too worried about melting it or creating toxic off-gas!

I lost a lot of the bubbles when I let the extra mixture drip out. Is it possible you need to let it drip longer?

Hi I love this but don't know where I went wrong my gloopy colour stuff coats the jars just fine while I'm doing them but it all starts to separate while I leave it to get rid of excess colour any suggestions gratefully received xx

Did you clean with rubbing alchohol? Sounds like oils and dust were on it to prevent it from attaching.

If you do this to the inside of the glass jar and put a candle I it, dosent it eventually burn off the color in the inside?

I suspect it would but I haven’t tried. Will try it! When I teach this at festivals we give them those little LED tea lights just in case.

Ok just because I was curious, I tried it. Burned a votive size candle in one of the jars from the video for 3 hours with no color loss or hot glue smell. This is not a blanket endorsement - I think a lot would depend on how dense your color is and how well baked it is - but it’s not a hard line never try it. I would also make sure the wick stays trimmed- I’d think actual flame on the jar would make it break.

I want to be honest and say I haven’t tried. I would assume they’d work because I would guess they’d have to be made to withstand a certain amount of heat during food processing but honestly I don’t know. Google is giving me mixed results.

I've tried this a couple of different ways - my jar tops end up gummy, and my color / consistency is not what I'd like it to be. The saving grace is that if a piece is a 100% fail, the glue / color washes off, so yay for that.

I think if the jar tops are gummy you may just need to make sure they aren’t over loaded with mixture going in, and/or maybe back them a few minutes longer. Color/consistency, as you are finding, is mostly a matter of trial and error until you get a mix you are happy with.

I suspect the turquoise and the pink mixed when I turned the jar upside down to drain but it's been so long I don't specifically remember.

Will it melt if there are outside? And can you use outdoor Mod Podge?

It will not melt outside unless it hits 340 degrees in which case I think it melting is the least of our problems :-) I haven't tried the outdoor Mod Podge so I am not 100% sure but it seems to me like it would work.

I don’t see why it wouldn’t work but you’d have to bake it in something to make sure the overrun didn’t get onto any parts of your oven. At least on the inside if anything drips down, it bakes off in the jar and doesn’t start a fire!

You know, I haven’t tried! The only downside I can see is that the non gels are less color dense so you might have to use more. But it’s the old podge that makes it bake correctly so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work!

It is hard to say without seeing but I suspect either your mixture was too thick, or there was too much remaining after turning it upside down to pour out the excess. There should only be a very thin coat on the inside before they go in the oven.

My guess is you aren't letting enough drip out so there's too much goo inside. Try letting them empty out a little longer.

I haven't tried but I would expect that the acrylic paint would not blend as well with the Mod Podge as the food coloring does.

I am iffy about that - I believe there is a food safe style of Mod Podge so that would probably work, without the glitter.

Either too hot an oven or too long a cook time. The usual rule is if it’s brown, turn it down :-)

I don’t think so. I believe Mod Podge makes a food safe product but that’s not what I used, and I suspect the glitter would also be a problem.

I haven’t tried that - not sure how it would bake in the oven. I think it might be too watery - Mod Podge is thicker.

Ohhhh my gosh!!!! So much plastic !!! You could have used glass cups , rather than using plastic and spoiling the environment ...anyways a nice diy 😀
