Yes that is correct. However, when measuring motor amps there can be a starting current surge, and if this exceeds the 10 amp rating of the meter it may blow the internal fuse to protect itself from to high a current flow thru the meter.

You will be fine if match the impedance. This effects the output amplifier load more than the watt rating does.

Perhaps you could try use the converter . If a high voltage needs to be generated from a low voltage, a boost converter can be used. Neither, because you are measuring AC volts RMS. So first multiply your reading by 1.414 to get Vp then times 2 for Vpp, ok? Please keep in mind this is ONLY for AC measurements. DC voltages read out exactly what they are.

So volts are the traffic? Amps are the number of lanes on the highway for the traffic to flow? More amps means more lanes of traffic? Resistance is where some of those lanes are closed further down the road - so the traffic has to slow down?

You may have blown the internal fuse of the meter. If you have another meter check to see if you have any continuity across COM and the AMP input to the meter your using to measure the amps with, ok?

You would need a Spectrum analyzer with some type of Summing amplifier built in to tell you how many output watts are being produced. If you are just trying to see how much load it is putting on your vehicles charging system, then connect an input amp meter in series with 1 of the power lines feeding power to your amp. Amps times volts equals watts, ok?

B Krazey - Install a >=2kW, 8-ohm dummy load on each channel. You can use speakers, but be sure they are rated for >=2kW and have them in another room and/or wear hearing protection. Using a frequency generator set to sine wave as the input, max out the amp volume and measure current through each dummy and voltage across the dummy and multiply together. Do this for several frequency points, such as 20Hz, 200Hz, 2kHz, and 20kHz. You may also want to scope the dummy loads to monitor distortion. If you do, you'll get a more accurate result. Turn down the volume until the sine looks good - no clipping, no ringing, etc. and measure your wattage at that point.

Sure it will work, but you will max out your battery charge at 2.5 amps, so it may take awhile to charge depending on the ah rating of the battery/batteries.

AC amps are measured indirectly with a clamp meter, not directly on the wires. The clamp is a circle that opens to form two C shapes, placed around a SINGLE conductor (one hot or one neutral) while the device is in service. The wires are not disconnected like a DC measurement.

A watt meter such as Watt-Stopper will tell you in real time the information you need. Volts will always be what is being supplied by your Utility service (between 110-128 in the US). Plug the device into the wall and plug your laptop charger into that. Attach your laptop and observe it in the two situations you mentioned. You will see displayed Amps or current, and Watts or Power and some will give you the power factor, indicating the efficiency of the system.

@@gotsm9959 To measure farads in a capacitor, you need to remove it from the device. If your meter doesn't read capacitance you can use the ohm meter set at the highest level, usually Mohms a good cap will rise steadily to infinity, but a meter that can read capacitance is better. Resistors can be read in the device but are rarely a problem. Capacitors will bulge at the top or leak from the bottom when they fail. Start with the big ones. If you replace them make sure the capacitance and/or voltage is at least the same, a little higher is ok but never lower and always the same type. The cylindrical ones are electrolytic and have polarity, a plus and minus side. A stripe on the cap indicates the minus and will show on the board where it sits as well. Very important to get that right.

Yes, when measuring amperage with a multimeter, you are measuring the amount of current flowing through a circuit. So this measurement is most useful when the component is being operated.

That is confusing. More light bulbs will draw more current if voltage is unchanged. The measurement is current used or drawn. You can't measure available current. She said the FLOW is slowed not the current. Flow could be seen as watts. Current isn't seen as having speed, but amount. The analogy is a water pipe where voltage is the speed (or force) of the water and current is the size of the pipe or amount of water. She is leaving out a lot of information concerning open or closed systems (power supply with constant voltage vs a battery, AC vs DC, ohm's Law etc.)

The fact that it is available doesn't mean you can measure it until there is a load which makes it flow. Current does not flow at all, until there is a load. Current level is determined by EMF (voltage) and conductance across this source. Current flow cannot be slowed. Current flows at the speed of light, regardless of its level at the time.

Watts is the measurement of power dissipated in a circuit as the result of conductance placed across an electromotive force. Voltage does not flow. Voltage is a force ACROSS two points. Speed of water flowing through a pipe is not even similar to voltage. Flow is current only. This occurs THROUGH a conductor. It never changes speed. This is basic physics.

Watts is measure of power and equals the voltage time the amps; Example 100volts times 10amps = 1000watts or 1KW. If 100volts yields 10amps then Ohm's Law says we must have 10ohms of resistance too, eh?

Hello Thomas, it sounds like you are asking about a Johnson outboard bout motor? If so the, I will have to assume the trigger you are asking about is part of the ignition system? A lot of early solid state ignition systems used a trigger coil (an inductive pick up) to trip a master switch (transistorized) and fire the coil. These trigger coils will not be very high resistance, 100 to 1000 ohms maybe. Let us know if this helps.
