No, thats normal. First, the editors never know how much footage they`ll need in the end. Thats why they always produce a shit ton of footage before entering post production. All the "Bonus" stuff on DVDs? Thats just a small selection of the most entertaining or interesting parts. Secondly, even if they knew how much they'd be showing, it would be easier for the director, editor and actor to do just the whole thing.

In my opinion that would've been the perfect time to go to the police and tell them everything, even if it meant him risking losing his whole family. It's not as if they were never gonna find out anyway.
