Great information. You two should compare this trip to doing 5 days in the Keys. Trailering the boat down from say north/central Fl, food, gas, gear, room, boat slip. Also what are the major differences from Bahamas vs The Keys when it comes to water quality, fishing, diving? 🤙

My 1st trip to Bimini was in 1999. All I needed was my birth certificate. I had just turned 21. I fished the Florida Sportsman Magazine tournament. Stayed at the Big Game Club. 6 days 5 nights aboard a 36 Luhrs. I paid total of $300 for the whole trip. I can place that trip in the top 3 good times of my life.

Yeah, prices have definitely got pretty insane....that is largely due to the skyrocketing real estate market in the Bahamas and gas prices having tripled since then. I grew up in the 90's in Miami and I vividly remember my Dad and his friends would make weekend runs out to Bimini every so often. By no means were any of them affluent; split up between a couple friends in those days was very reasonable. Making the run out to Bimini was actually easier and cheaper in those days than the hassle of a trip trailering the boat down to the keys.

Hey gurls, Got a few comments concerning on your pricing. I think to be fair to Bimini, the pricing should’ve been separate since consolidating it makes it seem as though it’s more expensive than it really is to visit BIMINI. Close to 90% of the total cost was incurred before you left Florida. Although, I would admit compared to the Florida groceries are fairly expensive. 1. Your COVID test would’ve been free at Walgreens, both PCR and Atigen. 2. The fuel bill would’ve been the same whether it was 1 person or 10 person as the distance is the same. Calculations could be made for the difference body weight would’ve added, but the difference fuel cost would’ve been negligible. 3. There are a number of grocery stores on Bimini. Though the prices wouldn’t have been much different between them the variety would vary. Plus there are the equivalent to farmers markets of folks selling fresh fruit and vegetables. 4. Next time, inquire about caterers that can cook you real Bahamian dishes. At least one evening dinner. The prices aren’t expensive and you’ll get the real Bahamian experience. 5. I was insulted (not 😂) that you brought over frozen pizza… Are you kidding me? Bimini has some great pizza makers that I’m sure you’d be impressed. All in all I’m glad that you and your sister enjoyed your trip. Hope you visit again soon and next time ask around with the locals. Try the Bimini pastries and other food varieties that Bimini has to offer. Oh and PS: It would’ve been cheaper to catch the fast ferry over and chartering one of the locals to take you on all those adventure places you been. I approximate you could’ve cut at least 80% of the total you spent.

Now I remember why I ditched the 52' Azimut long ago and went with the 13 meter trimaran. :) Fuel is less. Mooring is cheaper than a slip. Stay aboard on both, so no golf cart or lodging needed. Watermaker takes care of the water issue as well. My guess is that living aboard my trimaran for a week would be about $4k less ($500 per person per day), but I'm pretty sure I've rarely averaged $500/day on any particular stay sailing. The Azimut had two 750 hp diesels, so she was always going to be a pig on fuel.

You could just come to the keys and fish from the bridges for alot less and have an excellent time... For a week and a half, I spent $250 in gas to get here ( from PGH, pa), $650 for beer, food, bait and smokes... $185 gas while here- but just filled up today which will last 4 days... Includes fishing lic renewal- $55 out of state and lobster permit.. doesn't include lodging... Because that can vary soooo much, it's up to you on how you stay.... this is for one person...
