This category was all moody, slow songs that could be danced to in any style.
After a Pre-lim round with 70 dancers, we narrowed it to down to the 6 semi-finalists in this video.
1 winner of The Feels was chosen in this Semi-Finals round.
That winner went head to head against the winner of The Heels and The Thrills.

“Freestyle Roulette: Live Event” is a dance event created so that any dancer of any style can showcase their abilities in a high stakes, supportive environment. This event rewards creativity, whether you’ve been dancing for 10 years or 10 months, by judging not based on dance skill but rather based on interpretation of a prompt.
The dancer spins a wheel and is given a song at random, then spins a second wheel for a prompt at random. The dancer has to interpret the prompt to the song, dancing unrehearsed.
“Freestyle Roulette” is an exercise used in the @thegalenhooksmethod intensives to train dancers in committing to artistic choices. At times it is used for practical training, for example to prepare dancers for industry auditions or shoots where they are asked to do often awkward things that they have to commit to and deliver confidently.
Following the GHM sessions, students would often rent studio space to continue practicing alone or with small groups of friends. This event expands it to the greater dance community with curated judges who are not only at the top of their fields, but whom dancers rarely have the opportunity to be seen by. The judges are reciprocally exposed to talent they would rarely have the opportunity to see.
And lastly, this event allows us to discover new music and artists, often with the entire audience and the dancer hearing the song for the first time.
In order to make room for all dance styles, 3 categories were offered: THE FEELS (slow, moody songs), THE HEELS (sensual songs danced in a heel), and THE THRILLS (upbeat, hype songs).
Any dancer could enter any category and do any dance style they wanted to within that category.
Participants flew from around the world to attend. Dancers from all styles, backgrounds, and ages came together for this community event.

When Clay was dancing as the fallen angel reaching for the sky, and then later when he had a pained look on his face and fell back - that made me almost cry! Dance is such a beautiful art and story form. 😭 Really though, he was so talented and creative and followed the music well.

this video actually made me CRY. i'm sixteen and I already feel like the dance world is somehow so divided and competitive nowadays and you don't really see street dancers so often or competitions where everyone is truly there to support each other (and not be out for a trophy - and blood.) but this seems so amazing and it seems like being here would be an INCREDIBLE experience even just to watch. I’ve been watching Steezy’s tips and skit videos for a while, but ironically I’ve never seen Clay dance all that much before this and his freestyle honestly blew me away! It’s inspiring to see how he moves and honestly it’s a wake up to me to look closer at who I’m watching and really study the talents and artistry all of the people on this platform. They were all fantastic, but that stood out to me.

The night we met dance was so pretty. It was like she felt all the responsibility of controlling a city and didn't want anything bad to happen to it. Shaadow hated when he found out that he couldn't move freely due to the taffy. but then learned to wrap himself around it and flow with it instead of fighting it. It was amazing. Burn dance was so pretty. How instead of falling gracefully, he withered at the end and hid from the world into the shadows. The fallen angel dance was so aoiefaoweij. How he moved like he was in pain. He's used to moving gracefully but without his wings, he is nothing. Reverie was like someone who saw the aliens as something she needed to protect and wanted to show how beautiful and terrifying this world was. but also reassuring them that shes here. Worth it dance was interesting because the story he is telling is of love yet his mannerisms and facial expressions make it look like he's a showman showing off the two "odd things" he found.

I love how this feels like a close relative to improvisation theatre, using dance as a mean instead of word and phisicality. It takes more than being a skilled dancer: you need imagination, quick wit, being able to build a believable and compelling story in a given time, connection with the audience and the music. So difficult and so amazing. Not to mention the dance itself!

i love how the first dancer of the alien prompt interacted with the guy who danced the fallen angel prompt. it was fascinating to watch how the 'alien' first met the human and seemed to show them something that looked like it attracted them together like magnets due to coming from opposite ends. like how the alien came from somewhere else and the human comes from Earth, like two polar opposite ends of a magnet and being attracted as opposites do. i loved how the human chased the first alien prompt dancer's movement up close with such inclusion to an unspoken tale as if they breathed in one world. it felt so poetic and serene to see through just body language. idk im rambling but as someone imaginative, it was enchanting to see their interaction. it almost felt like a real scene of the prompt, i just had to really point it out and appreciate it myself.
