This is where Star Trek should have taken a lesson. Babylon 5 did a very slow burn, what we thought was episodic television slowly turned into a serialized chapter based show. We got to know the characters and world and when the explanations were done the story arcs picked up. This is an underrated gem full of heart.

KInd of did, but remember - especially in this day and age of fish-in-the-bowl attention span - this is death for the series. TNG or SG:U or ENT took 2-3 seasons to find their legs. No executive / network / audience has patientce to last that long.

But they did! Not to the extent of B5, the whole series was one, long book, at least up to the 2nd to last season. Before B5, Star Trek rarely had a story that extended past two episodes, usually a season-ending cliffhanger and 1st episode of the new season. But later on in DS9, and Voyager, you had story arcs that extended several episodes.

*Star Trek: Deep Space 9* became a HEAVILY serialized show after Season 2. I recommend checking it out, or at least from *Children of Time* to *You Are Cordially Invited...* The documentary What We Left Behind also does a great job summarizing DS9's legacy

Mr Straczynski sure did write one of the best SCI-FI series ever made. Multiple story arcs, life and death moments and decisions, Also plots within plots (think Centauri and Lord Refa). Bit of a pity that CRUSADE didn't do as well as B5 (mind you he thought B5 was a flop, lol), it showed real promise, more importantly he knew how to pick a cast that could deliver his message. My heart goes out to those we have lost in recent years (Peter Jurasik, Andreas Katsulas, Mira Furlan, Jerry Doyle).. So many wonderful actors who played their parts so vividly (and with style). Still watching in 2023.

When I first heard Galen speak it resonated so strongly and I couldn't figure out why....until I saw his name. Peter Woodward. He is the son of Edward Woodward and he has an identical beautiful voice with perfect enunciation. I wonder if he has inherited his father's singing voice. Edward Woodward had a fantastic tenor voice.

Apparently this DVD didn't receive a lot of love. I really enjoyed it. Not just because it was new Babylon 5 but I thought it was unique stories that fit but outside of the larger arc. It was a compliment to the larger story. I really wish they made more. JMS explained why.

Agreed. I know it's impossible, but I think a "re-mastered" version with cgi upgraded to current standards (a la Star Trek TOS) would still fly today. I am currently re-watching it with my son and many episodes, in particular the Nightwatch eps, are disturbingly prescient.

In crusade he had a bigger part, this mage is so funny at times, and I enjoyed every episode, one of the best series of the 1990’s. Great stories. Too bad it lasted so short, I was hoping ten seasons worth. Better graphics than Star Trek although it’s my main stay, Babylon 5 gave it a run for the money. I miss these character, at the end it was like I was saying goodbye to an old friend. Just awesome.

Three Vorlon planet killer and Shadow death cloud were more destructive than anything before, but they were experimental doomsday devices that never saw action after Sheridan did the Truth of the conflict and told the first ones to leave. Galen knows that Sheridan has seen what then looked to be a doomsday conduct, but that was small in scale compared to the conflict in Galen's vision.

@@zootube323 The Lost Tales. It was more of a pilot/anthology of shorter stories. The idea had been if it was successful there would have been more. From what I recall, it was successful but WB wanted more changes than JMS was willing to accept. So only one was made. The other story was a type of possession on B5 with Lochley. Many people dislike it but I thought it was very well done (I won't give away the plot since, spoilers)

Like Galen said this can be stopped and we can make it through the Omega point , I do not foresee myself after this particular point. This could mean that it's not settled yet or that I will die facing the swarm. The is also another possibility that I do not enjoy particulary where I need to let the swarm eat and assimilate me so I can fight within the mind construct of the hive mind. I do not know if I will see us reach the Z point within the Filter but I do know that making it up and pass the Omega point will be my gift to humanity. You deserve to reach the Z point and like Delen said it before , I believe that humanity as a lot of potential and have the right to ascend into space. After everything we have been through , all those millenia of slavery and manipulation couldnt destroy the human spirit. Even after they killed the strongest among us. I believe you can be a force of peace within the cosmos and that one day you will make me glad from where ever I will be when this is over for me and the part I need to play into all of this. I'm sure you will not make me regret for standing up for humanity and that you will never become something that look like the Terran from Star Trek discovery. Peace and Harmony , Violence and war only when it's inevitable and that the survival of the whole is at stake. War should never be fought other than in self defense or for the greater good when a need arise. Such as the need that arisen during the WWII. I do not want to become like Hitler and lose my way. He did serve his purpose by holding the red army long enough so the occident could prepare but along the way he commited so much attrocity. What I'm being told is that if somehow we pass the Omega point he will be forgiven. I have his mind within me and to be honest we might hate this man or judge him for what he did but he was one of the brightest military commander we ever had. Which bring me to the need to repeat what I said before , If you ever see me in the futur seeking power over the entire army or seeking civilian power other than that of advisor this would mean I lost my fight and that I'm not really myself anymore. IF this happen put me down ( kill me ) You can do this by cutting my head off. Like I said I'm honest and put my trust in humanity. I ask for your trust and I cannot do this without trusting you in return. So here I stand making a gesture of honesty and telling you how you can kill me. Like I said you can put me down if you dont trust me but I'm here to help and work for the greater good. The power you saw me seeking over the last few month was not based on a desire to take power over the multitude or to wage war against everyone. It was done as asked in response to a need and desire to see humanity freed from slavery and have what is necessary in order to make the world a better place where no one has to suffer as much as I did. Where no one get killed because of the greed of certain wealthy people or because they are not like everyone else. A world where those who seek to experiment the material world can do but while leaving space or a sanctuary for those seeking to explore the spiritual world without the burden of work or daily life. Our current civilisation rely on slavery and due to this most of us lose our life working in dead end job without even knowing we are slave and that we shall never make enough to free us. Why do you think they use inflation ? They literally print money out of thin air ( yeah this was described by Daniel when he spoke of the king that will be more wealthy than all the other before him ) , inflation is not a tool to stabilize the economy like you have been led to think but a way to make sure your saving always become worthless so in a way ensure your obedience as a worker that need to feed is family or himself. This need to change and there is other way we can do this. I'm not here to force the change upon you , just here to advise like Gandalf would do. It's up to you to listen or not. As a side note , I did contemplate the possibility of becoming a dictator. This would have made everything quite easy in an attempt to change the world. But deep within me I always knew this was not the answer. Why ? Because If I act as a leader for a few hundred years , eventually I will be killed or die in another way. If humanity has not reached a point where the Majority can lead themself and protect the whole from parasite that could seek power for their own gain everything will have been done in vain. Humanity need to grow , we are like children at the moment , mostly due to the master control , what happen to a children your nurture too much ? When adversity come he cannot fend for himself and trust me I learned that the hard way. It's for humanity to take power and not for me , like I said I will advise and help but I cannot occupy a position of power and cannot live in luxury either. I do have a lot of respect for Sparta , and if what I think I see is truthful , they were all awaken human being. This might be one of the reason why they seemed so harsh in their way and were able to defeat the Dictator that came to enslave them. I have lot of respect for Leonidas when offered the world if he had bowed he refused and sacrified himself in order for Sparta to be ready and understand the need to rise up and fight. True leader that understood the responsability of the mantle he was. I learned from a lot of different field as you can see and shall keep learning , training and making progress while seeking to always stay within the boundary of harmony with a little bit of Khaos. With the help from Khaos and so many other I would have made it this far. Lot of people sacrified everything for this and to help me prove what I'm saying but behind the scene and inside my head without the help of those backing up like Khaos , I would have failed a long time ago. And Yes in the past I did say to myself that I was tired and wanted to give up. Now I understand that I cannot give up and that for the better or worse I will have to see this throught. I must have a lot of english folk within me because I basicaly switched to english in my cognitive process and it take effort from me to speak , talk and think in french. Right now I naturaly tend to use english for a reason I'm not understanding. Funny thing is , if I end up understanding other language when more memory come back up will I switch and begin to think in like Japanese or Chinese ? it's not often that I get to read a book in the comment section but I did enjoy this stroke of philosophy and there is some deep thinking in there but I have moved beyond these points. I've been on this planet for five and a half decades and have read books on these subjects and more and experienced the darker side of humanity and found that if there is a path that the human race is on it is deeper and more complicated then that. History is written and edited by those whom seek a particular future and it are these people that will tell you who to love and who to hate we often talk about Hitler but never about the people who were more than willing to follow the orders, ordinary people like you and me. we are the problem not the Hitlers,we the people and we can only reach the point you speak of if we the simple people wake up and stop needing leaders to show us the way, wake up to the truth and see the path. now as an individual that is achievable, but as a people ??? lets just say we have run out of time. the human race is dying it has been sense the mid sixties our IQ levels have plummeted faster then our birth rate we are just a few years away from total social and economic destruction. and what comes after will not leave this planet and move to the stars ...physically but maybe the wont need to.

I always loved how the three book arcs became cannon. The PsiCore story of the rise and fall of Bester. The Centari Arc which shows the tragic ruling of Londo, and how Vir became an emperor. And, finally the fate of the technomages where Galen is introduced. Crusade referred to the stories and actually used Galen as he was in books. Awsome. If you read these, you really realize how tragic it was for crusade to fail. Hell, Bester was returning in an a few more episodes...

I still don`t understand how this war could happen. Ok, League of non aligned worlds are cowards, Narns be like "No thanks, we suffered enough" but won`t Minbari join the party? Aren`t they somewhat bound with humans? Centauri only chance to win was somewhere prior to Dilgar war, since then EA gained powerful tech from older races, Centauri didn`t. Maybe they planned simply outnumbering enemy, making thousands of Vorchan or so, I don`t know the size of their navy or how fast they can build.

It could have been a situation where the Centauri took advantage of a weakened ISA. I also get the sense this was a sneak attack. I know they mentioned during the season 4 finale that they got into quite a few conflicts. Also the Centauri, having left the ISA, would have designed their ships to challenge ships like the white stars. While the EA improved their ships, they are still relatively slow and lumbering compared to the vorchans. In the B5 universe, whatever ship gets the jump on the other tends to be the victor.

My guess is the Minbari defang the warrior class because of the civil war, so they became more reliant on the Rangers for defence. Which we saw in the Legends of the Rangers and Crusade was become increasingly reliant on humans for members and ship's and ship design. The non align worlds now at peace diverted resources away from war and into economic and social development and became reliant on the rangers who were reliant on the humans. Also ISA also had a tech sharing program. The Minbari shared artificial gravity with humans for example. This tech sharing program would have largely brought up the other races to Minbari level. The centeuri wouldn't get direct access to this but things would leak out and they could steal stuff. Also those weapons destroying those cities. They don't look like something Centeuri Vorcha class carry. They look like something inspired by the victory class destroyer ships.

It is conceivable that in 20 years they could rise to the level of challenging white stars, and apply that to capital ships. As we know, the Alliance's attempts to make a capital sized White Star went... Poorly...

In the situation we know it shouldnt as Earth is a member of the ISA and the Centauri by this point are in cold war with the ISA.. the Narm would jump at any change to strike Centauri as we left them .. same as most of the League of Non-Aligned Worlds.. and Earth by the end of Season 5 has allready surpased Centauri Republic in military might.. so only i can think is Vintari puts in motion a chain of events that ends with Earth out of ISA and/or unable to defend after a frantic arms race by the Centauri Republic... considering the Centari are at this point in secret leage with the Drakh and how the Drakh operated to take control of the CR and isolate it from the rest of ISA by staging false flag attacks.. they might had done something like that to turn everyone against earth so at least they wouldnt intervene when they attack.. Or he just doesnt care ... somehow manages to have a fleet slip by and bomb earth and what we see next is the resulting war that might or not end well for the Centauri Republic.. In the end doesnt matter as that reality never realiced

I agree, but that wouldn't contradict the events Galen showed from happening. Just like what happened to Napoleonic France which the Centauri are modeled after, the ISA could curb stomp them after the initial surprise attack and atrocities. Kid Napoleon/Hitler would lose, but Earth would still be devastated.

He is right. This always bothered me. The Omega Class would have been all but replaced by the Warlock. The Aurora would be a museum piece. The EA fleet should have been full of Thunderbolts and Warlocks or better especially after all the loses Earth Force took in the civil war, telepath war and the Drahk War. By the time this vision takes place EA has had working understanding and ability to build and use Whitestar technology for 35 years.

@@_Teorias_ The Humans were able to build two Whitestar class Destroyers. Victory and Excalibur both preformed well above anything the younger races could build. So I think they would know how on building and implementing those advanced technologies. As for time and resources, EA rebuilt it's fleet from the Minbari war to something no other race would tangle with(Except the Minbari and Vorlons) in 10 years. They had at least 30 years to rebuild by the time this vision is suppose to take place. I guess it's a moot point because it doesn't matter to the story. I just thought it would have been cool to see EA ships in the future looking a little more advanced.

@@fireforeffect1979 No, you seem to be confusing the ISA with the EA. The ISA designed and funded the Victory Class Destroyer's. Also, iirc the shipyards they were built in were one of the Drakhs first targets. It took the ISA half a decade just to rebuild those, let alone produce new ships. As for EA, my point stands, Earth was effectively quarantined for almost 5 years, Mars was independent and most of the other colonies spent most of their resources rebuilding after the Civil War. That EA had any semblance of a fleet during the Drakh war is nothing short of a miracle, let alone a state of the art one.

@@YESTERDAYMANSCIFI Yes. It's in the Technomage trilogy I still possess. Galen was on Z'ha'dum the day Sheridan flew there. Galen disabled the central core and shut down the defence systems. It was a coincidence that allowed the White Star class ship to get to the surface and explode. Otherwise Sharidans bombing run would have been unsuccessful. Kosh's ship, which had followed Sheridan, nearly shot Galen down, because he is regarded a tool of the Shadows, like all Technomages. Galens story with his lover is also referenced in the "Well of Forever" Crusade episode.

Babylon 5 deserves a reboot or at least a remaster of the original. I have read there were high resolution film that was lost or dumped long ago. Original footage really needs to be sharpened, upscaled or remastered. I don't have the DVD's, so blurry Babylon on TV just makes non-fans not feel it worth watching. It's just one factor, apart from story, cgi, sfx, greenscreen, stage sets & acting, that needs improvement. Even a real 720p scaling would probably make it more appealing. I would be all in if they made a modern reboot as a cinematic feature film, but apparently Straczynski doesn't have the TV rights, he only has the film rights, to make even one movie possible.

It doesn't have to be anytime in the near future, it could be another 50 to 100 years from now, when our descendants in that time period might be thinking about bringing back something from the dead. The remake would have to be done in the right hands of course. But like I was saying, if the original S35 film footage & low-res composite & CGI shots can be improved upon, that is a step in the right direction, reboot or not. Many already know about the blurriness & losing a portion of the screen during anamorphic conversion except for the live action portions. Again, I don't have the DVD's or Blurays so not sure myself. As far as acting, effects & story, I am fine with the series, but my actor brother does not like it. I can understand, e.g. Star Trek Next Generation had a bigger budget than B5. And it shows.

I would love to see a complete remastering to 4k quality video for this series. however, if it would be rebooted, I would say it would have to be at least 150 to 200 years in the future. after the lifespan of the characters and their children have come and gone. They would need to do it in the same manner also. The show was plotted out as a 5 year story, each year a little of the story would unfold until year 5 when the story was put to a close. That was the brilliance of Babylon 5. And its great team of writers and special effects. The dialog was grand, funny, epic and to the heart of the matter.

There was a remaster done in 2020 that is reportedly a lot better than the DVD abomination but still hasn't re-rendered the CGI. On HBO Max and maybe other places. Rather than a reboot, they should do one or all of the canonical book trilogies (Techno-mage, Psi Corps, or Legion of Fire) as a new series. Or get JMS to give them the original story outline for the Crusade series and produce a new series based on that. If they could find another actor who could do justice to the G'Kar character, we could have a series based on the adventures of G'Kar and Lita Alexander after their exile from the Babylon 5 station.

A lot of people seem to think the Centauri couldn’t attack because they couldn’t win in the simplest definition of victory. Not so: Perhaps they could not win, but perhaps their version of winning isn’t the same as yours. Have you ever read the mouse that roared? Are you familiar with the theory of credible threat? You don’t have to be the best, you just have to be strong enough to weaken your opponent. Then your opponent has to worry about all the other not strong enough entities that would now see them as weakened and vulnerable and take advantage of the opportunity to attack. Sort of like a lion versus hyenas.

Worst acting ever. You can see it’s daytime soap opera roots. B5 and DS9 were a bust overall. The Dominion War and the Shadow War both ran aground in storytelling. I don’t know how you make war stories boring but it was in both shows.
