they were both in the wrong with what they did. they both wanted to get married, but ian didn't want it to be rushed or end up like monica and frank, which is totally understandable. mickey shouldn't have punched ian and ian should've thought before doing something.

@@loizerz Ian deceives Mickey. Mickey said that getting married only for legal reason wasn't a good reason, but Ian reassured him, so Mickey believed him. Ian brought it up the marriage thing, so it's normal Mickey's anger. Ian should've thought it, and Mickey punched Ian so he could understand how painful was Ian's decision. Mickey did a "normal" action. I understand Ian's fear but he takes everytime rushed decision.

I read a lot about Ian behaved horribly. Despite he somewhat did, it’s not cause he doesn’t love Mickey on the same degree. He’s scared. There are things he wants to badly, like a boyfriend, a family, even children, but he take with himself the big cross of being Monica’s son. He’s scared of ruining everything like his mother did, cause of his illness, personality and background. He’s scared that since he has no frame for an happyful family, he might be a terrible husband. Until the point he needs to get married to protect Mickey from Jail , he is willing to rush in something he’s terrified. But after finding out a wedding wasn’t needed anymore he’s afraid of losing this kind of happiness he finally found with Mickey. Thus he chickens out. It’s not like Mickey loves Ian more. Mickey knows no better and being with Ian is the most concrete thing to happiness he ever found. And that’s why being left is always been the worst for him. But Ian ? He ruined their relationship many times. Even much more than Mickeys ever done. If he married he and mess up he’ll hurt him so badly. Just like Monica did with Frank. And thus he chickens out. But the most important thing is Ian is willing to do something that scares him just to protect Mickey

An observation I made after rewatching episode 8: In the diner, Ian told Mickey that he wants to marry him not only for spousal immunity but because he loves and trusts him. Then Ian turns around and ends up putting his foot in his mouth by stopping the marriage licence after he finds out that they no longer need spousal immunity. Mickey was originally unconvinced about marriage but, after believing that it was what Ian wanted, he agreed because he loves him enough to do this for him - even if the spousal immunity no longer mattered (obviously because he signed the paper anyways). Ian, on the other hand, pretty much manipulates Mickey into agreeing to marry him, then he proceeds to drop Mickey when he's in an extraordinarily vulnerable place. I'm sorry, but Ian screwed up a lot here and I totally understand where Mickey is coming from. I mean, they were in no way ready to get married...obviously cause they clearly don't talk enough and Ian does not respect Mickey (e.g. calling him crazy or a psychopath or homicidal on multiple occasions...I don't think I've ever really heard Ian say anything nice about Mickey, just insults).

it's so dumb how y'all were saying that ian doesn't respect/deserve mickey just because he doesn't say it. that's not how he grew up, he grew up in a family in which their love language wasn't gushing and talking about how much they loved or supported each other, but more so showing it. if that's how he grew up, obviously that's how he's gonna behave in his relationships. he may not tell mickey how much he loves and respects him, but it's pretty clear he does through his actions (giving him all his money so he didn't have to commit any crimes/be completely broke in mexico, literally helping him run away, taking the bigger steps in their relationship, etc). also, i don't think he necessarily manipulated mickey into marrying him. sure, it was douchey, i'll admit that, but maybe as soon as he realised that they didn't absolutely *need* to marry, he chickened out because he didn't want to be like monica & frank and also thought that he couldn't be loved because of his bipolar. which is, admittedly, an issue he needed to (and did) work out. but yeah
