So I went ahead and tried my hand at translating all the strange text found in the game. Some of it is a stretch in places, but I kind of had to given what the game was trying to communicate by combining a total of 29 words. I invite anyone to give me your interpretations of what the text translates to. 5:52 - Gallery isn't a gallery. Now can take. It doesn't love you. Gallery is consuming being. 6:32 - I know how bomb. "Help us". Gallery took me. We are sane. "Kill it". Now consuming good experiences what being. 12:48 - Good entity. Bad thing. Gallery's. 15:01 - Here isn't here. I touched art most times. 15:44 - You can possibly do good thing if you don't die. "Build bomb" 22:14 - Julie: Where am I? ABG: Bad gallery -- Julie: You are evil art entity. ABG: I'm not. 23:22 - Julie: Where am I? ABG: Don't know -- Julie: This is a bad place. ABG: It is. This is bad taste. 24:06 - Julie: You have good taste. Gallery is hateful place. 26:45 - Left: I am gone.-- Middle: We love you. Trust us. -- Right: We believe in you. 49:30 - Julie: What am I? ABG: You are sane being. -- Julie: I am taken. Now is possessed. ABG: You are not taken. You're a good person. -- Julie: Love is given. You are giving. ABG: Gallery is insane. You are sane. -- Julie: You aren't Gallery? ABG: I'm not Gallery. -- Julie: Gallery is bad. I love you.

I love how the guide sounds like it's been written by something that knows how discussing art should _sound._ Like, the structure of the sentences, the tone you're supposed to use, even what words are used to describe art....but doesn't understand _why._ It doesn't understand the meaning of anything it says, it just fills new sentences with "talk about art here." A lot like the gallery, I guess. It understands what a gallery is, and what it looks like, but not why, and it can't be arsed to maintain the illusion for _too_ long. Brilliantly lovecraftian. Always love the concept of something trying to mimic concepts it does not or cannot understand, and managing to do so, but imperfectly.

I don't understand why people keep saying the Curator's voice ruined the whole game. It added a unique and uncomfortable feeling to a horror game. It's not supposed to be pleasant, when is the intention of anything horror supposed to be pleasant?? Bravo Dev. The fact that this game was made in 2 months speaks volumes of your potential. Damn, that was one hell of a trip. Thought the long limbed monsters and the ASMR guide were weird enough, then the giant cosmic monster lady showed up!
@KnakuanaRka2 жыл бұрын
This game is awesome; the Lovecraftian style is perfect as it shows an art gallery being imitated by something that doesn’t fully understand it, as the world starts breaking apart into something otherworldly. The narration from the Curator also shows it perfectly; as someone else mentioned, it’s like the entity listened to a bunch of actual art commentaries and museum guides and tried to put the same words together itself without really understanding what the words all mean. The settings are memorably creepy, with elements like the alien kaleidoscope/starry field lights, strange materials where you can’t tell if they’re liquid or solid, and weird flesh looking genuinely Lovecraftian while gradually mingling with the art gallery setup. The lighting and scenes like being chased by the monster while interacting with the paintings are excellent at building tension. And I love the attention to detail in making a small vocabulary for the alien language, even if some of the text is hard to translate. I do have a couple faults, but they’re pretty minor, often involving some things that don’t entirely fit the Lovecraftian atmosphere. Julia never seems to figure out that something is seriously wrong even when surrounded by blatant body horror and weirdness; I get that the ASMR guide and the weird lip-smacking noises the Voices make is supposed to add to the sense of discomfort, but it’s annoying and hard to appreciate; the segments communicating with Julia might be better as pure exchanges of messages without any of the stats, which kind of feel out of place (and especially the missiles in the second segment with her); the fact that the same painting appears all over the place to interact with, and the way you interact with it via button prompts, also feels out of place; the way the Voices talk about an “Anti-Crux Bomb” doesn’t fit with the rest of the prose, and could be talked about in a more mystical way; and maybe some other stuff. But it’s all pretty minor. Also, at the end, the Voices say you need Julia in order to kick-start the bomb, but you set it off right there; I feel like there’s a missed opportunity to speak with Julia one last time to get her to set it off. I even have a good idea for what that conversation would look like (though it kind of got away from me when writing it, and I definitely went overboard); first in alien language, then a breakdown and full translation (in the replies). These sentences are a lot longer than many of those in the game (though the graffiti has some longer ones), so I hope the grammar (and a lot of my assumptions and constructs) make sense and I didn’t mess up any pronouns or anything. Try translating it for yourself before looking at the answer: You: Shif à u o. Julia: Shif à ji vâ o è. You: o ji. o RrEr vp à juè. Julia: Shi ji p. Shi à RrEr. You: p ji wp. To translate this, in addition to knowing constructs like how I occasionally put two objects together for “and” (like “you and me” becoming “o à”), and using “Shif” for “if” as well as making questions, there’s also some repeated phrases I use that will make translating this much easier: RrEr: verb-possession -> to have wp: death-object -> weapon, bomb Nè’Q: opposite-consume -> give, grant àEr: you-possession -> your wRr: death-verb -> kill, die Ni’vwâ: not-good-art-entity -> the Curator (think this is used in the video) TsX: action-touch -> to use oll, ok, àll, àk: me-time, me-place, you-time, you-place -> now, here, then, there juEr: potential-possession -> can, am able to Xu: touch-know -> speak to, meet ud: know-health -> sanity uju: know-potential -> knowledge, idea So, here is my full translation and breakdown: You: “Do you remember me?” (Hypo you know me.) Julia: “Are you the good one, the one I love?” (Hypo you is good-entity I like.) You: “I am; I have something good you might like.” (I is. I have good-object you potential-like.) Julia: “What is it? What do you have?” (What is object. What you have.) You: “It’s the weapon; if you give it your life, it can kill the Curator.” (Object is weapon. Hypo you give object your health, can die Curator.) Julia: “So I will die if I use it?” (Hypo I die when I use.) You: “You will die. It will take your life when you use it. But if you don’t use it, the Curator will live. Do you want to kill the Curator?” (You die then. Object consume your life when you use. Hypo negate-use, Curator verb-life. Hypo you like die Curator.) Julia: “Stop. I don’t know if I trust you now. Are you the Curator? Can I be sure you are what I think you are? Can I know this is what you claim it is?” (Not-action-verb. I not-know hypo I believe you now. Hypo you is Curator. Hypo can I know you is what I believe you is. Hypo can I know object is what you action-verb object is.) You: “I’m not the Curator. Do you remember me? You and me spoke a couple times about where the bomb was. I gave you your sanity. You took back the power the Curator took from you. You gave me your knowledge. That’s why I have the weapon now, why we can kill the Curator. You said you trusted me, you loved me. Do you love and trust me now?” (I not-is Curator. Hypo you know me. You I speak time-plural where is weapon. I give you your sanity. You consume potential Curator consume. You give me your knowledge. Is why I have weapon now, why me you can die Curator. You speak me then you believe me, you love me. Hypo you love believe me now.) Julia: “I trust you. I know you’re a good person; the best person I’ve known. You could have died here; many have died out there before. But you believe you could find the weapon.” (I believe you. I know you is good-entity, good-most-entity I know. You potential die here. entity-plural die there, you believe you can touch weapon.) You: “I appreciate you speaking so well of me. I like that you can speak with me so clearly now. Do you like having your sanity back?” (I love you speak I is good. I love you speak I your knowledge good. Hypo you like consume your sanity.) Julia: “Yes, I do like it. I will use the weapon now. As I die, let me tell you again that I love you. I would like to think I could meet you again in another time and place, when the Curator is dead and gone. If I meet you, I will remember you then.” (I love have sanity. I use weapon now. When I die, I speak you time-multiple I love you. I like think I can speak you not-now not-here, when Curator not-have health potential. Hypo I speak you, I know you then.) You: “If I don’t see you again, I’ll still remember you. Are you happy with that idea?” (Hypo I not-speak you, I know you then. Hypo you like know-potential.) Julia: “I’m happy with that. I will see you then. Will you remember me for all time?” (I like know-potential; I speak you then. Hypo you know me time-superlative.)
