It committed mass genocide on multiple species and worlds, and enslaved countless others, stripped worlds of their resources, and stripping citizens of their rights and freedom. It was a literal terror state, with the Death Star, and other super weapons, being the crown jewels. You're basically saying that the guys fighting against essentially space nazis are the bad guys, so....

I'm an Aftermath apologist. The writing style was awkward, sure, but the material was fantastic. I heard that some of it was taken from Lucas' notes he left the storygroup writers. The "feel" of the story was absolutely Star Wars.

It's good so far. A flashback at the beginning would've been confusing to the audience and people who didn't read Aftermath. Plus one scene would not have changed people's opinions of a film or films, in my opinion. Would've been cool, but it's ultimately pointless.

Jeffrey Aguilar probably could’ve, it mainly failed because he was intentionally destroying all the remaining ships and men leading up to this battle. By the time of this fight he killed off many key figures intentionally and morale was low, but even without the lost resources they could’ve still won if he wanted to but he did everything in his power to make them fail.
