Maureen Dowd said something very interesting. She is talking about how democrats lack charisma. That democratic candidates were too professorial. That democratic candidates would try to explain how things work or tried to cover a wide range of issues. Isn't that how the Brexiteers won in England. Brexiteers won on a single issue and used simple slogans like Marxist mantra (the rich are evil and the poor are good). That England wanted her SOVEREIGNTY back. The issue of immigration (all migration whether legal or illegal was a violation) was locked into sovereignty. The issue of EU trade regulation (fishing rights, setting foreign trade agreements, ...) was violating English sovereignty. The issue of EU dues (as if English farmers were not receiving farm subsidies from the EU, ...) violated on English sovereignty. If you try to demonstrate that there were benefits to being in the EU like EU subsidies to England then it violates what the average English citizen perceives as true. The average citizen has no responsibility to think if a lie on the Big Red Bus (350 million pounds per week to NHS) is even possible. A long as 2 MPs (Boris Johnson and Michael Gove) have their BBC News interview standing next to the Big Red Bus with the big lie, then it is true. In a representative democratic republic, each citizen has to make a responsible, EDUCATED decision. Each citizen must make a judicious vote. Just having the right to vote by birth right can be dangerous to a democracy as explained by Plato. A referendum is a simple democracy. In a simple democracy each state issue is voted upon by each citizen. That led to the downfall of Athenian democracy. Athens has 3700 years of written history. Athenian democracy existed for only 200 years. All of the other Greek City States were not democracies. Do you see how fragile simple democracy is? Each citizen must make an EDUCATED (as in PROFESSORIAL) decision. A democracy based on demagoguery is doomed. Does the average citizen like Ms. Dowd understand this?

To whom much is given, much is required. Democracy is not free. Your free will is not free. To earn it you must learn it. Ignorance is not a defense to be protected by cosmic forces against tyranny. To protect our democracy, the citizenry must be informed. It takes work to stay informed especially if we’re distracted by cultural indulgences. There is no excuse for ignorance. Eve was deceived and human kind has paid the price. Who was more innocent than her?
