Historically Giuliano de Medici was far from helpless. He was the best fighter between the two, but had been wounded few days before, falling from the horse while hunting. The conspirators went to pick him up at home, to convince him to attend mass. Giuliano almost always wore the mail shirt, and carried his hunting knife, but in his condition, that day, that weight bothered him, so he had neither. One of the conspirators, as they met, hugged him, to make sure of that.

I would like to add something to this story. I remember watching a documentary about Lorenzo de' Medici when I was in middle school with a lot of written reference of book of that time and I dare say that what happened in reality was even more frighting. Lorenzo didn't notice that his brother was dead before entering the sacristy as he was scorted by some people. He would scream his brother's name but no-one would tell him what happened. As soon as he could get out of that room people formed a shield so that he couldn't see his brother's body as it was unrecognisable with all the blood and stab wound. So the people heard him screaming fom his brother "where is Giuliano ?!"a lot before he could break through that shield and see his deceased brother. He really loved his brother so that's why his revenge will be so scary. I haven't watched all this series only a few scenes. I don't judge it since it is difficult indeed to recreate perfect history events but I wanted to add this anecdote because I find it particularly emotional. Also English is not my language I'm Italian and the documentary I've watched was made by Alberto Angela that's why I trust the sources.

Your English is very good. Thanks for the extra info. It sounds heartbreaking, what happened to Giuliano. An extra fact, it seems Lorenzo was never the same after Giuliano's death. Giuliano was even reinterred to be buried with Lorenzo after his death.

Some actual historical tips that this series has forgotten: 0:25 Jacopo de' Pazzi was not in the church during that Mass. 0:37 Giuliano received his first knife shot in the chest by Bernardo Bandini Baroncelli, who was beside the young Medici. Then Francesco finished him with knife slashes in the head and in the chest with such ardor that he injured his own leg. 1:18 Lorenzo didn't knew about Giuliano's death until he left the sacristy. This because the two brothers were in two different areas of the cathedral and not close to each other as seen in the scene 1:39 the facade of the Duomo was built only 4 centuries later 1:48 Lorenzo did not fight against the assassins but was dragged by his friends (Poliziano was one of them) into the sacristy of the Cathedral. He only had time to defend himself from Maffei's stab in the throat. That's why he didn't knew anything about Giuliano's murder. I've appreciated the actors performances, but I think that the authors should have been followed more History (with capital "H")

I am not a very big fan of the show. It can be overdramatic, a little too cheesy for my taste, the story isn't always great, the characterdevelopement can be flipflopping around and I, as someone who loves history, think it focuses too much in details I don't care for while ignoring those I consider more interesting. BUT: I am not gonna lie, this scene, this entire episode as a matter of fact, is one of the best from any series I have ever seen. For me this episode can even hold up with game of thrones episodes like the red wedding. I love Florence, I love history and I most especially love the history if the medici. This episode is perfection through and through and unites all those tings I love. It is pure genius. The assassination attempt, the way Vespucci looks at his blood-stayned hands and realises what he has done, how Lorenzo shows up at the Palazzo della Signoria, the speech he gives, the way the mobs anger tears down the Pazzi palace and everything they have ever created or owned in Florence, how Jacopo doesn't even care that he dies and is glad about how much damage he's done, how Lorenzo has to learn not to become like his enemies and how Boticelli pains "Spring" as a symbol that this is not the end but rather the beginning of something new... Those moments are just plain brilliant. I might not watch the entire season again, but I'll certainly research this episode over and over again.

Within the Duomo itself, on Easter Mass....... I am not exceptionally religious, but the sacrelige, desecration and violation of sanctuary disgusts me.

Actually, even in the game Ezio wasn't able to save Giuliano from the conspirators, he was only able to rescue Lorenzo.

Ubisoft really messed up big time, not siding the Assassins with the assassins here. You would think they'd actually make the assassins assassins for once. But no, apparently whoever's against the Pope must be good guys.

The fact that they planned this hit during mass, and the holiest mass of the year at that, is incredible. This is why God sent Jesus to die and rise the way he did. Yet, even so, many treat his sacrifice like it meant nothing, and this is proof of it.

Ive never watched this show or heard of it before today but I like Bradley as Arthur so when I saw a compilation of this character "sassing people" I thought "oh that's fun!" Then I thought "ah he's cool maybe I could like this character." Next I read this title and finally I'm here again, watching Bradley get stabbed and die. The horrors never cease my friends.

I mean, I did know what’s gonna happen because I did do my historical research before I started watching…BUT!!!!! It didn’t help to ease my pain and sorrow!!!!!!😭😭 The whole scene is so powerful and shocking and even beautiful.😭😭 I burst into crying when Lucrezia screamed, can’t help but recall she had already lost a child in last season.😭😭 And Giuliano giving the sword to Lorenzo is just heartbreaking.😭😭Medici brothers forever.😭😭😭

There is a big mistake..1478, when this occurred, the duomo didn’t have a marmor covered facade. They build it after 1880. So the shot from above doesn’t make sense
