Fun Fact: What made the FA suspicious of Lucas, was not just a bunch of Brazillians betting on his yellow card. It was a bunch of people from Paquetá Island (an Island in Rio where Lucas was born which only has 3000 people) betting on his yellow card. And Also, Lucas had a bunch of these people added on his Facebook too. It's like a bunch of people from Staten Island starting to bet on a suspicious yellow card from Staten Steve

Seems like incompetence from the investigators. They should’ve kept it if they thought they were gonna need it again. If you’re being investigated and they take your phone, you’d assume they no longer need it when they give it back to you. And that they would have a copy of all the data of the phone. Plus, he already handed the phone in initially so it’s not like he was hiding the contents from the investigators
@Icarus07c13 сағат бұрын
Zealand made a mistake here, it's not the same phone, it's the second phone Pacqueta was allowed to use whilst his main phone was being inspected. Once the inspection was over and new allegations surfaced, they asked him to produce the second phone, which he destroyed. It's not incompetence, Pacqueta seems to have continued doing this WHILST being investigated.

1. Paqueta surrendered his phone himself before the FA asked him to do it 2. There's no indication and no official statement they asked him to hold on to it. Wrong. They asked for the second phone he was permitted to use whilst his primary phone was being held, that's a key part Zealand got wrong here. The FA had his primary phone, allowed him to use a second phone during this time and as new allegations emerged they asked him to produce the backup phone too, this is the one Pacqueta got rid of.

As a west ham season ticket holder from a fan perspective this whole situation is awful all round. How they are taking so long to make a decision is beyond me. Have watch paq play live multiple times and he looks a shadow of his former self right now with this hanging over him. The club don't know what to do either, talks of if he is found guilty and a life time ban given the club taking legal action against the player. Lucas Paqueta getting a yellow card v Chile for a blatant foul. It’s extremely obvious that these guys are involved in this, Ivan Toni and Tonali’s at it as well.
@unholyxeras818211 сағат бұрын
Don't know anything about Toney's doings but leave Tonali out of it. He bet on games he wasn't playing in, bet on the team he played for to win, and when he was caught he held his hands up and helped the investigators with their investigation. He then served his ban without complaint, did his best to keep himself fit and sharp during his time out, attended gambling addiction support sessions and spoke to young players in Italy of the dangers of gambling addiction and the trouble it can cause, using his own experience to get the message across. He has since returned to playing and been outstanding. He shouldn't have been betting on football, but he's done everything right since

It’s funny that Zealand thinks that if FIFA gives a lifetime ban to a betting player, then the other players who are betting addicts will magically stop being addicted because they are scared to get a life time ban. Addiction doesn’t work like that, and if anything it would only make it worse, because no player would seek help for their addiction because they know that a lifetime ban awaits them. And people that really are addicted to things, they don’t think that it’s fun anymore, when they started yes, but when you admit that you have an addiction then it isn’t fun anymore, because you no longer feel that you have control, you are a slave to your addiction.
@FutBandit9 сағат бұрын
I mean for him to face punishment for “not cooperating” (phone being gone), they would have to prove that he intentionally got rid off his phone to hinder the investigation. And as long as he haven’t put out a tweet telling the world that he will get rid of his phone, or as long as he haven’t told someone about it, then it would be very hard to prove that he intentionally got rid of the phone. I mean we all understand that he probably got rid of it, but you need evidence to prove it in court.

Giving footballers life time bans for their first or even second crime is just laughable. There have to be a reasonable punishment, in my country you can rob a bank with weapons and get 8 years in prison, meanwhile FIFA thinks it’s fair to ban a player for LIFE, their career if they are lucky would be good for 10-15 years, so basically Paqueta could rob a bank with an ak47 and get 8 years and then continue his career, but because he rigged bets worth 500 euros he should not be able to ever play football again according to FIFA…🤦🏼♂️ Is it just me or is this INSANELY STUPID?! A reasonable punishment would be 1 year suspension for a first time offender, and for a second time then maybe 2 years, and third time your out.
