Playing Acoustic Blues in A on the Trochilus harmonica (also known as the Game Changer). I call this a DOUBLE BLUES harp.

Thank you so much for posting this. I've been super curious about these. Just entered my 51st year of playing harmonica and was full-time pro by age 20. Started in bluegrass and then full-time in Country honky tonk Band which regular diatonics work fine for in the style of Charlie McCoy, Norton Buffalo, etc. However I did have a seven-piece swing dance band for 10 years with female singer and one or two horns with me playing arrangements and horn lines. At times to get the head on certain tunes in jazz or swing I would play chromatic harp and oftentimes much in third position that fits with many of the jazz heads and horn lines in swing bands..... Still being able to get the fat horn tone with amplified harp that isn't always as strong with chromatic. These harmonicas really look like I have the potential to get some of the best of both worlds. I typically play customized marine bands that Richard Sleigh built for me years ago in all the keys with many duplicates or triplicates. Otherwise off the shelf I typically stay with the crossover but sometimes the deluxe or even stock marine bands. Very interested to how these harmonicas perform amplified if they have the same bite and horn tone you can get with a marine band. Listening to you play acoustically though sounds like the potential is definitely there. Thanks again for sharing this information and sound sample, nice playing also!

Thanks for the reply - I'm imagining how smooth those Sleigh harps must play! Great story. I have not done alot with these amplified. When I do play amped, it is with a 5W tube amp and a S545 Sure mic (Butterfield mic). I can say it takes some additional effort to cup well (since you have the button to deal with and slightly larger size). Perhaps I'll put together an amp video soon.

@@PeterHogi Haha, Yes when Richard builds a harmonica it plays as smooth as silk. If you compare the old original Marine Bands (not the terrible years of the 1980s but the good ones in the 1970s and as they are much better now), and then you step up to the Crossover, crossovers play much nicer and his are the next step above that. He also has his own tuning that he did just for me that's a little bit of a compromise tuning but he tweaks a couple of the notes to help smooth out the cords a bit also. I use the sure 585 a lot for jazz and pop and other styles although I did play many years with 545 and still do at times. Of course for straight ahead blues then I do use a crystal bullet mic various vintage ones. Be very interested to hear anything you put up but it looks like the next step is to get one of these and try it. Thanks again for posting.

That means alot to me man. I feel it has a ton of potential. But like any powerful tool, it's really important to be careful about how you use it.

Thanks Adam. It's my first one intended for serious. Had a few noodlers before. I'll be at SPAH for sure, Michael asked me to play in the variety show, and I'll be presenting a session on the Trochilus. Hope to see you there!

Wow really cool playing Peter! So cool to explore this new harp! The paddy tuning has also a lot to offer with their special tuning in the hole 2 and 3. Nice to see your kid being around while you're playing....he clearly wants a Trochilus for him! ;) Keep your great video going and thanks for sharing! 🤜 🤛

Thanks! I'm finding the big add in hole 2 and 3 is the G#. Provides a very stable 3rd note of the scale when playing 5th position in Major.

I was in the same spot. No need for new harps for most my life. Then these came along...I bought the whole set. Been spending most my time on the A and the D. C and Bb are also good. G and LF, I need to spend more time with to learn their strengths.

I have one in solo tuning and love it. I have a question anout the richter tune ones, though. From what i understand, it is fully chromatic, but how does that work on hole two? Can you get the flatted 5th without bending? So Gb on hole 2 of a C harp, for example.
