Seriously. He was clearly very mentally unwell and I feel terrible for almost anyone who had to come in contact with him. His rage and entitlement is terrifying to me as I'm a woman who has had bad encounters with being in the wrong place at the wrong time and catching the attention of a dude like this who ended up hurting me for no reason. This guy, Alexander has severe main character syndrome and very much treats other human beings like NPCs. ☹️

You can tell Alex was incredibly insecure, like, to a pathological degree. from his constant corrections, his insistence that he's NOT a bad AVGN clone, his whole foreskin saga, and of course the drama with his ex gf, he seems like a guy who genuinely couldn't let go of minute details and insecurities. His mind only existed to circle around negativity, no matter how pointless. No wonder he was so drawn to AVGN's nitpicky review style.

One thing about Game Dude I remember, was that he was paranoid about getting his videos "perfect" and would reupload the same video over and over with barely noticeable tweaks. He'd always base his opinion on how many stars people would give it on KZbin (before the thumbs up/down days) Anything less than 5 stars, he's re-edit it. So when trolls discovered this, they'd endlessly mess with him giving his work 1 star every time, so Alex became neurotic that people hated the quality of his work!
@evenhartwick4422
@evenhartwick4422 8 ай бұрын
whats funny to is that views have always been more important on youtube than how highly liked or rated a video is. you can still be a heavily disliked video and still go viral like Rebecca Blacks song Friday. and Game Dude was constantly whipping his views away just to get a high rating on video. a 5 star video doesn't really mean much if its got 5 views

Having dealt with having to file restraining orders for a business: it doesn't stop harassment, it only gives the person filing a step-up in reporting and gives the recipient an understanding that there will be consequences for further actions. Those who are light offenders are generally done right there, but those who are more committed will find ways around it. i think dude never got support for his autism, esp from the way Alanna described it as "I think he was diagnosed with autism as a kid but i dont know if he still has it" gives me the impression his autism was kind of ignored. his obsessive fixations and inability to see from other perspectives than his own and the lack of awareness of how he comes off all all seem like they come from that
@XallySucks
@XallySucks 7 ай бұрын
I completely agree, and a lot of his odd behaviors and statements people are making fun of him for (such as using toy dinosaurs to reenact scenes from his life) are simply examples of said autism. He was different in ways people couldn't understand or know how to deal with, including himself. I'm not saying this to excuse the objectively bad things he's shown to have done or said, but I think he isn't as bad of a person as people seem to think he is. He clearly cares a lot about everything around him to the point of obsession, but with help to properly manage such obsessions he could definitely make a good life for himself. Hopefully that's the road he's on now.

I suddenly wanted that star rating system to be back. Not all videos are outright “dislike-able”; there are some that you just like a bit less than others, maybe because of presentation or cinematic value, etc. but then you like how the topic was researched or discussed and so on. I think it would give viewers a better feel of videos instead of as of just liking and disliking. I know ratings are still subjective but I just appreciate a tiered liking system.
@billymarino4452
@billymarino4452 8 ай бұрын
I agree the star rating was the best. And now that they disabled the thumbs down, what's the point of the system anyway? Someone suggested at least implementing a "neutral" thumb which means you thought the video was okay, or your indifferent to it because you don't care for the topic, presenter, etc. Thumbs up or down is too vague to be of any use in my opinion.

I remember reading a comment from reddit or youtube from someone claiming to know Alex back in HS, and apparently he was a weird one back then too. I know it's the internet and anyone can claim anything, it doesn't necessarily make it true. But then again it's not unfeasible that people who knew Alex or grew up with him in the real world watched his videos and thought to themselves "hey I remember this guy." He'd probably still turn out to be a basket case, just wouldn't have the internet watching his every move. Same with Christine Chan. All the online antics and trolling didn't help, but she grew up with a family that didn't give her the proper help or seek others that could help her from day 1. She'd still be an autistic mess with or without the camera.

They act like its so funny and are so proud that they helped pushed him further into a worse mental state. They are all pretty cringe. I also don't really see why Joon had to go into great detail about his personal experience with a sexual toy and him being upset about something his parents did to him like it was a joke. If that were a woman it would just be seen as lame and unfunny and a from of sexual exploitation. They had a group of over like 5 people digging for all the information they possibly could on the guy, and a private group where they shared what they dug up on him. Even pretending to be other people to get into his personal real life social media accounts. That is 100% a form of stalking, and cyberbullying. Nothing Gamer dude did was justified, but I've seen very similar kids I grew up be socially awkward like that, and all people did was push their buttons until they lashed out, or hurt someone, then pretend they had nothing to do with it.

It's rather scary how many of the internet avgn copycats were mentally unstable. Spoony went off the rails and there are reports he was like that even before his youtube run started. Armake shot his success in the foot multiple times with his anger and emotional problems (though in the end before he died he did seem to chill out a bit and accepted responsibility for his online bad behavior). Mike Matei is a huge manchild (and if you read James Rolfe's autobiography, it's clear he's not playing with a full deck of cards either). Another guy named Undercoverfilmer was charged with stalking a woman in real life (who was married in real life and didn't even know who UCF was, he apparently met her at a baseball game and became obsessed over her). He still has a channel called no1run and it's obvious he's still a basket case. I said this before but I think the problem is that people like that probably never had many friends or success over the course of their lives, but get a taste of it when they launch their youtube channels. They're not emotionally stable or mature enough to stay grounded through the thick and thin, so they crash and burn emotionally when things go south. You gotta be thick skinned and level headed when you make yourself public like this, and most people can't seem to handle it.

A lot of people in the comments saying that there had to be something more than just being autistic in this case, but keep in mind that this IS what autism can look like, particularly when the autistic individual is, one, not being properly supported or receiving adequate treatment, and, two, when they're being treated like The Game Dude was, whether online or not. Do ya'll think the people Joon talked to had the best intentions for him? Do you think the lolcow shit doesn't have an impact? It genuinely could easily *just* be autism with that in mind. None of what he did was justifiable, mind you, but it's ridiculous how many people are acting like there had to be another condition here. There could've been, but there doesn't have to be. Very disturbingly that's exactly how things like the Christina Grimmie incident and many other tragedies, featured all over crime channels like ID and all have happened over the course of time with unhinged creeps like him. Glad she's finally safe and can hopefully now live peacefully.

For example, He has an eye for furry/cartoon animal stuff, but can't handle being being made fun of about it, so he throws out his popular theme song immediately because of the banjo cat. Video called it when saying he can't take criticism but the trolls point out where the charm is. Same goes for his reuploads. He kept reiterating into an incomprehensible mess because he must negate every criticism. It oversaturated and messed with the delivery on his more successful lines, while removing the parts he was embarrassed about along with the context. I guess his plagiarism and parasocial behavior are similar as distractions from his self loathing.

After watching a lot of his content, I can pretty much say that the main problem with him is that he isn't a naturally funny, or interesting person. He has to rely on cheap and easy jokes because his brain physically cannot come up with something funny, and he knows this, giving him an insecurity of his humor, and thus an inability to take criticism. I've noticed this trend with a lot of lolcows like Chris Chan, Cyrax, Daniel Larson, and KingCobra.

The forum posts really brought me back... people used to be so _ruthless_ on the internet. The admins and mods of those old forums would power trip so hard where everyone could see, and regular users just reveled in kicking others while they were down. It was heartbreaking when you were young and on the receiving end of a dogpile when you were just trying to fit in, or shared something you made and thought was cool but was torn apart. In that respect, I feel bad for what GameDude went through. Some people did try to help him move away from copying AVGN, but they were completely drowned out by nameless bullies who reveled in making him mad, and he let them get to his psyche to the point of obsession. Tragic. Absolutely tragic. It doesn't excuse his _deplorable_ actions later in life, but it makes me wonder how different it could have turned out if he got the help and support he desperately needed. The Game Grumps Mickey Mousecapade episode is legitimately hilarious, though.

Ive watched alot of videos on Alex but had no idea how maticulous he was with his youtube channel. I have diagnosed OCD and watching this and seeing how repetitive the way he responded was and how hung up he would get on the smallest flaw gave me kind of a sick feeling in my stomach. I dont have the same type of responses or obsessions as he does but i very clearly can recognize the compulsive need to repeat certain actions even if theyre not serving you in a positive way. I kinda started to feel sorry for him because he seems oblivious to how hes putting himself in a worse position. I really hope that he gets help someday and that he gets the opportunity to talk to a professional on a regular basis to work out his issues and any trauma he hasnt faced. Everything from creative and business decisions to patterns of behavior, these videos do an exceptional job warning potential newcomers what obsession (particularly in this case), narcissism, and lack of self-awareness can do to cause a personality to self destruct.
