This rule keeps getting dumber and dumber. Bad enough that there's a 15 second pitch clock to begin with. But, then it's like, no you really don't have 15 seconds. Because they can rule ball or strike before the clock even reaches zero.

My understanding is the batter has to be ready. Quick pitching is one of those unwritten rules--you just don't do it. I said back when the rule came out that the MOST interesting affect is going be how it changes a batter's 'routine." The pitch clock isn't simply about pitchers taking long looks at runners on base or shaking off multiple signs as the batter and putcher spar over who is "comfortable." It's also about things like the Sotos of the baseball world taking 30 seconds between each pitch to be ready to receive the ball. That's my take, anyway, and it would appear this umpire sees it the same way. Betters are going to have to quit stepping out of the box or getting out of their stance between pitches and stay ready. The pitcher gets 15 sec to start their motion, but the batter only gets 7 sec to be ready to receive a pitch. Get ready for some new cat and mouse games between hitters and pitchers based around the pitch clock. Can't wait to see if Jomboy does a break down.

Should have been 15 seconds with no runners on, 20 seconds with a runner on, 25 seconds with 2 runners or more on. 25 seconds from 7th inning on.

It's great that these issues are addressed now & not during the season. Baseballs the longest game on TV at 3 plus hours & it has the least action understandably so. Gotta trim the fat & when ya do ya always lose just a lil of the meat.

The rule is pitcher needs to be ready to throw by 7 sec, which FU*KING clearly shows he wasn't!!! Least the batter was in the box, why would he look up when the catcher is STANDING right next to him. BS call

I'm glad this rule is now in place but I think the ump should give a one or two second grace period almost like how quarterbacks don't always get penalized when the play clock runs out. If they snap the ball when it hits zero or even a half second after it hits zero then the refs will let it go. That's what umpires need to do also

Nah you have to be strict about it in spring training to get them used to it. Is umpires give seconds of grace to batter they’ll 100% take advantage and you’ll have uproar from every side who doesn’t get the call. Enforce it strictly to keep it level.
