EA is a stupid company in so many ways that is mostly skating by on a licensed sports game golden goose, but I feel like they already had a reasonable model back in the PS3/360 generation. They had a separate studio make a small multiplayer mode for Mass Effect 3 with microtransactions, using assets from the single player game. I feel like that is a good testing ground for if they have the makings of a live service game on their hands that also isn't betting the whole farm on it's success.

Forza Horizon isn't a competitor to Gran Turismo. If anything Forza Motorsport is. The only real competitor to Forza Horizon is Ubisoft's The Crew: Motorfest.

It just doesnt work that way anymore with the handful of racing games we got in a whole generation.
